Need help with value, 1968L sporto
Numbers matching sporto coupe, rare golden green color, car runs but not well since the carbs need to be rebuilt, needs floor pans, and inner and outer rockers, COA in hand, gaps are nice with no evidence of any accidents, front pan is fine, car is basically complete but needs a full restoration. Any idea on value would be appreciated.
Thanks, Fishman7 |

Fish,
This is a tough one. Sounds like major work on the body, mechanical freshening and all the unseen rust issues that will pop up once you open the car up. The car doesn't have an enormous upside either. In excellent condition it would be valued in the $30s. I would have to say under $5,000. This would give you enough room to properly repair w/o being upside down. My budget as a non DIYer [who is currently restoring a 69S which had similar rust issues]: Body repair: $6,000 Strip & Paint: $8,000 Chrome Re-plate: $2,000 Mechanical: $5,000 Misc: $3,000 Purchase: $5,000 Total: $29,000. Tighten the numbers as you wish.....

I'll try and get photos tomorrow, here is the COA. The only thing I'm confused about is that the COA states a 911 and my registrations says it is an L, I haven't had time to figure it all out. Either way it is a nicely optioned 68, too bad the sports seats aren't with the car any more!

According to this site, it's a 911 Normal Karmann built coupe.
The elferhelfer.com site agrees- does your car have an aluminum dash facing? If so, it's a Normal as the L models have the vinyl trim just like the S. An L coupe would have a 1181**** for a VIN. Last edited by 911K; 11-07-2009 at 05:47 AM.. |

Here is a 69 sporto $35,500.

Very nice highly optioned car. The advantage of the 68L would be the SWB. PS love Golden Green!

Well here it is, sorry it took me a couple of days, but I just purchased two barn find 356's over the weekend and they were more important than this. The car was painted black at some point but it is golden green. The motor seemed fine when I fired it up and it had nice oil pressure and no smoke. There are Porsche seats with it but not the sport seats. It appears at some point someone installed a new carpet set and fake fuchs, this is the way I purchased the car. Numbers matching, it is running but not great, rare color and nice options but will need a ful restoration. I am going to sell it as we have a new baby on the way and I can not take on another project at this point, I'm think starting at $6,500.00. Sound Fair?

I put the car up for sale in the cars section but now I'm having second thoughts, what a great and rare color!
