911T thinking about selling or part out

I have a 70t targa I am thinking about selling. I just bought it a couple of months ago because it seemed like a good deal. I still think it was a good deal. I paid $8k for it. The only problem is that I found a nice 70t coupe that I REALLY REALLY want. I will get into that car some other time. So here's my dilemma. I gave the guy $1000 to hold it till I raise the funds by selling my car. Here's the deal. My targa has about 80k miles on it and I have documentation from the day it was imported until 2000 when it was torn down to repaint. The car hadn't run until I got it and took it to my trusty mechanic to bring it back to life. After two months of sorting, it is alive again. Now it has a lot of small projects to get it right. Wipers, lights etc. That kind of stuff. Now I don't want to put the money into this project since I have another in mind. Here's the question. Part out or sell the car whole? Here's a list of major parts on the car.

set of 5 deep 6s
original 2.2 motor with weber 40IDAs
Complete and very nice interior
All new body/targa seals
All new lights and lenses
All body parts are solid

I only need to raise another $7k and it would be nice to take some of the really nice parts from the targa and use them for the coupe but I can't bring myself to ruin a perfectly good targa.

You will always get more for a project car in parts unless it is a S or even an E. A 70t Targa in pieces will cost 15k to put back on the road if the motor is good and the interior as you say is nice. As a driver it might be worth 22.5k on it's best day in today's market.

You could take many of the parts off the car and still sell the remainder for 4k so it would be saved by someone and still on the road-this is unholy if you are dealing with an S but not a T. The interior and wheels are worth the most and are most easily sold and so is the trim and glass. After that the cutting begins and the car is lost, not to mention you have to cut it and pack it and ship it, no easy matter for the ugly bits.

If you leave the matching motor running in the car you should easily net 4k for the shell and you probably will reach 7k for the wheels/interior/trim etc. so it may be woth it to you. Photos and details of the car; color, options etc. would help futher, you may find someone wanting the whole car at a price that makes sense to you as there are always folks looking to get in on a Longhood cheaply as long as it runs.

Where you are located too is a factor, here in LA things are dearer than in the back of beyond.

I would be interested in the wheels if you go that route, 90210@misterbeverlyhills.com is best way to reach me. Hope that helps.

If you can swing it keep this one and buy the other. What is not widely recognized is that ALL long hoods, especially the "modern ones" '70-'73 are quickly becoming the 356s of the 70s. Affordable now but maybe not 5 years from now.
I have two '73.5s and they are going to be in the family for a long time.

Thanks to everyone who has replied. Here are some pictures of the car as it is today. Hopefully this will help to get an idea on its value.

i would definitely pay $7k for your targa, why not just post it up for sale in the cars for sale forum?

I was hoping for something around $13k. Is that out of line for this car? I bought it for $8k and spent a $2k+ on it getting it running. I am not out to make a bunch on it. It would be nice to take a little $ to spend on the new project but I still want to pass a good deal along to someone else. What would be a good price for this car?
