Wow! This car has European pistons!
I was drawn to this car because of the color and then I read about the Euro pistons - wow a German built car with European pistons - who would have thought it? Sarcasm aside - any thoughts on this car from the board? I'm looking for a car, but leaning more towards a SC to 964 period model but I do like these earlier narrow bodied cars. I'm not an expert but I believe the owner is saying he's using ROW "euro" pistons giving the car a higher compression ratio.
I like the look of the car, but with the script and the chin spoiler I think it needs the original Carrera tail to finish off the look. The car looks great and if it's what you want I would consider looking into it further. Stating no rust ever is fine, but I prefer to see pictures of the underside. before I buy that plane ticket to go look at it ![]() I personally would go for an `80's Carrera not that a CIS car is bad just one less thing to deal with on the motronic cars. The 964 is starting to get too modern for my tastes but it's all about what you want out of the car.

If you can't work on it yourself and budget is a concern stay with 84-89 that was welll cared for and still set aside a few thousand just in case. It doesn't take much work to add up to a $1000 dollar bill at current repair shop rates - $80- 110 / hr range.
BTW I am on my 4th 964 street car and I think price wise they are by far the best bang for the buck. However I can diagnose and repair the problems that arise - more electronics - more problems. |

"european pistons" doesn't mean much to me in this application.. what pistons? Whats the compression ratio? Car still has CIS, which doesn't respond well to high compression engines..
Mirror is wrong for a '74 Can't remeber all the VIN deciphering, but is the "1" after the 9114 indicate the car was a base car? an "s" or what?

I personally would not pay 20k for that car without some serious docs. on the engine rebuild. Given your budget a well maintained SC (78-83) would probably be your best bet. As stated above "euro" generally means pistons that create a higher compression ratio.
Now find yourself a stock “euro" "ROW" (rest of world) spec. SC and you will be in business, great car. The US cars were detuned to meet emissions regs. I saw one (euro spec SC) recently on ebay in PA. I also looked at a nice US spec '83 SC in Livingston, NJ not long ago. The biggest issue you may face on a local car is rust. I would not advise buying one of these cars without being able to drive and look at it with my own 2 eyes. Artful pictures and descriptions can cover a myriad of faults. If you see some local (NJ/NY) cars PM me, I would be more that happy to try and help you sort the good from the bad. Kevin
