915 Value

I believe this is a 72 or 73 Transaxle. One thing for certain is it is the only year where the input shaft seal has be installed from the inside of the box.

This box was rebuilt about 10k miles ago with the new input shaft seal and 1st and 2nd gear syncros. It shifts very well and was in my "daily" driver.

The numbers on the bottom don't appear to be all there due to some scratching. From what I can make out it shows 7331671

What kind of value would this trans bring?

I recently sold a 'core' for $1200.

Most valuable thing in that box is the ring and pinion, which can be inspected with very little labor.

Ring and pinion and the TM 5th gear. Those two things together are worth about $1500 on a bench. If the 5/r op sleeve is good, that's $500 part new, $250-300 used. Speedo drive tail cone is $250-350.

If you inspect the ring and pinion (pull the side cover) I wouldn't sell it for less than $2000.

Is there something unique about this particular mag box or just due to being a 7:31?
How may i verify it having a TM 5th?

It would be worth more if it was a 74. 72, 73 don't have a removable guide tube. The case is uninteresting.

Most of the money is in the ring and pinion. You cannot verify the 5th without pulling the tailcover. But it's only about 8 nuts. And you can verify 5/t slider condition at the same time. Most guys won't bother and offer the box as a maybe at $800-1000. You can get double that if you show it has some good stuff inside with half an hour of wrenching.

Thanks for the info, that'd definitely be worth the time.
