Your purchasing experience?

Maybe it's just this week, but it seems I am seeing more cars start to make it to market...Iv'e been looking at 87-90 Cabs.I was getting frustrated so I started to broaden my years and even deviating from my original thoughts about wanting a cab. What I really want is a 89.5 964 C4 Cab but cant seem to find the ticket.

So my question is:

Stick to my guns and buy exactly what I want ?
Possibly deviate a little and look into the 87-88 Cab or even Targa?
Did your price fulctuate as well when you started to think about price?

By the way, this is my first Porsche purchase.

Did anyone else have the same issue?

Thx in advance for your help and advice.

IIRC, in the US, the 964 cab wasn't introduced until 1990. In '89 they introduced the 964 C4 coupe only.

Buy what you want.. but I would take the time to test drive examples in the years listed ('87-91). Porsche made many upgrades to the 964 series beginning in '92.. and as many will say, buy the newest you can afford. Enjoy the search!

Patience is a virtue in finding the Porsche of your dreams, especially in today's market. As has been pointed out here previously, with market prices being depressed, those that would ordinarily be selling their car (and don't need the money) are holding on to them.

I spent a long time searching for a non black or red G50 coupe sans spoilers but the wait ultimately paid off and I wound up with a great car.

The message is to stick to your criteria.

That being said, racer is right that there were no 964 Cabs in the US for 1989. Sticking to your criteria there will result in never making a purchase.

I would also recommend buying a copy of Peter Zimmerman's book on buying a used 911, if you haven't done so. It helped me quite a bit in cutting through the BS during my search.

Good luck!
