1983 911sc factory widebody?

I was browsing 911s for sale and came across a 1983 911sc widebody with 128k miles. I think actual mileage is 200+ based on carfax. Carfax also does not say widebody. How can i make sure if it is in fact a factory widebody? Seller claims it says on title in the add. Is that good enough? the vin is WP0EA0917DS171644. The car is listed for $15,500. Is that a good price? If it is in fact a factory widebody its very rare. Should i not expect the price to go up? I have not seen any of these for sale.

I can't imagine a title would say widebody.

If one or a few were made by the factory they would be rare. Many many people claim to have factory wide bodies. I were interested in the car I would first call Porsche in Atlanta if you are in the US and give them the VIN and see what they say.

The other way to check if the seller has a COA on the car.

Good luck and be sure to have everything checked out.

There were no official factory widebody 911 models sold in '83 except for race cars and the occasional "Special Wishes Dept." car built for a customer who requested it. I doubt if it would even have anything on the COA specifying the widebody option. I have seen many claims made about this but none really substantiated well. Without an original factory/dealer invoice or Kardex supporting the statement, I would not put any faith in the seller's claim. There were many cars converted to widebodies in the aftermarket, but few from the factory. Does it have any of the other "Turbo" bits that might have been added, such as 930 brakes or trailing arms? What wheels are on it? At that price, there may still be good value in the car depending on condition and equipment, even if it was not a factory build, as long as the conversion was done to a high standard. There was a similar one recently advertised here for $28K, with an equal lack of documentation. At $15K, it is less of a problem if the "factory" claim is a pipe dream.

The only reason one could call it a widebody is to compare it to a longhood "narrow body".

Most WIDEbody references are to the "turbo" body style which included a lot more than widened fenders. There were no official SC based ones, well, except the exceptionally rare 911SC/RS

This claim ("factory widebody") comes up all the time on SCs, has been for years.

Not a single one that I've seen has ever been documented.

No documentation or proof, I would not believe it. The one you are referencing, he is the fourth owner, how would he know the true history of the car? He only knows what the third owner told him.

Although this one gets a little more interesting because he claims "original paint." Again, not sure how he as the fourth owner would know that, but my guess is a good body shop who gave a close examination of the car would opine otherwise.
