How to make a quick $35,000 on a 911
Hi Pelicans
A 1982/83 SC 911 came up for sale recently in in Australia with just 15,667klms on the clock. Said to be a one owner and rarely used I decided to give the seller a call. Sure enough, purchased by the uncle and passed onto the nephew in 2004 due to illness. The owner told me the vehicles condition was as it should be with such low klms. The asking price was approx $50,000 AUS. Very reasonable price given that a well used high klms car of the same year sells for $35,000 to $45,000 AUS. Over the next couple of days my wife and I discussed the possibility of buying the 911. We eventually decided not to buy given that we already had one of the same at home (just not with such low klms on the clock, but loved never the less). No surprise that the 911 in questioned was gone within a few days of being advertised. So I have over the last couple of months wondered what had happened to the car and who had picked it up. It certainly seemed to be a now rare beauty. In the last day or so I was checking a couple of my usual dealer locations to see what was about. To my surprise, I have once again found the previously for sale red 911 sitting in a dealer showroom for sale again. Difference is 1000klm away from its original advertised location and just a little more in price. $35,000 to be exact. So the car I thought about buying for $50,000 AUS is now for sale for $85,000!! So thats how you make a quick $35,000 on a 911.' cheers perry. Here is a link if you would like to have a look: www.classicthrottleshop.com/modernclassics |

My point of view
Hi Pelicans
I suppose it was the way I wrote it and perhaps the difference in cultural backgrounds (Australia vs USA). What I was trying to say was how about this motor vehicle dealer buying this car for (I assume) $50,000 AUS and then a few weeks later advertising it for $85,000 AUS. I also wonder how the original selling owner of the car would feel if they knew what had become of the vehicle. Once again I must assume they are unaware they sold it to someone who then simply bumped it up $35,000 AUS (the car has had nothing more than a wash for re-sale, incidentally). Sorry if I caused confusion. cheers perrygrandprix |

don't think there was any confusion. and wouldn't we all want that kind of opportunity? I know a lot of people who would love to buy something for 50 and then sell it for 85 after a small cleaning. The guy that sold it for 50 might be kicking himself for selling low, but hopefully he is merely happy for getting 50 for it. Who knows. jb |

I can fix you up with a black/black '81 SC here in So Cal -- passed from deceased father to son. Car has a documented 59K miles. Probably $11,500 US to you. All you have to do is a complete top end rebuild to replace all the broken head studs.
Moral of the story is that there is often a big gap between what one pays for a car -- even low mileage -- and what one has in it when reselling. Oh, and my dictionary refudiates the word surficial.

"surficial" as opposed to superfulous , I guess I could see it I'd the context were geological as in earths surface or crust but as to washing and waxing an auto?
Back to the real reference all of us would enjoy a windfall of this magnitude will it happen for this individual is yet to be seen.... |

As long as we are playing the semantics game... isn't it repudiate? And I was thinking that surficial is appropriate in the context of wondering how Alexander II would feel today about selling off a little corner of Russia to the US in 1867.

The question is, does the dealer offer a service ? He is absolutely making the car available to those with the means and desire to own such a car. I would hope it would come ready to drive, fresh service and tires.
