Value/Maintenance '96 C4 Cab
Hello Everyone:
I could use some help or pointers to threads regarding the value and potential maintenance issues for a '96 C4 cab that has being offered for sale by a Porsche dealer in my region. It's a one-owner car with 123K miles on the odometer and has been maintained by the dealer for the past seven years or so. The car had a top end rebuild at 92K miles, has a new top and had some work done to the cab motors. From what I can tell from the service records, no maintenance has been done to the all wheel drive system unless it was done during a 92K mile maintenance on the car. Is there anything I should be looking for in particular? The car is in great shape and I may be able to get the dealer to pick up some of the remaining maintenance items they found when the checked out the car (oil leak, respray of the hood and drivers door due to road rash, replacement of left rear wheel) The car is being offered at slightly under $20K. Thanks in advance for any input Tony

Not sure the dealer has any real incentive to throw money at this car.. its 10+ years old afterall and at under $20k , it would seem below average price for a 993 cab (ie, price is maybe accurate for given condition).
At 123K miles, I'd be think about other wear items like shocks, ball joints, clutch. Recent flushings of brake/diff fluid as well. Any reported SAI issues?

I didn't see any work performed on suspension, shocks or ball joints. I didn't see anything either relative to SAI. My guess is that some of these most likely will need to be addressed. The major concern is the four wheel drive system.
I would agree that the dealer will not throw any more money at this. It is likely to be wholesaled in the next two weeks if he can't sell it. I don't see this car being his lot byeond the end of October - particularly in my neck of the woods.

If the car has no hidden issues, and the paint is still good, that is a very good price. Buy it and smile...

What is making you go for the C4 vs the C2?

I cujrrently have a '74 911s Targa and have been thinking about getting either a 964 or 993 coupe or cab. To do this, I need to sell my car first which I haven't had the time to do on my own this year.
The C4 for sale was close enough to what I was looking for and since they had expressed some interest in my car I thought I might be able to buy-and-sell in one transaction. Their interest in my car turned out to be the usual dealer b.s. when I showed up. They wound up moving the car - not sure at what price

It's better you didnt get it then...do some research on the drive train on the 964 you might want to stay away from the AWD 964's unless you need it (snow, rain, etc)
