Unusual RSA on ebay

This has got to be unique-a RS America with a 993 engine and salvage title!
Whadya think?

Is it just me or does the ride height look way too high?

davidbir 12-20-2010 08:49 PM

I think it is still at the original RSA rideheight - needs lowering.

these guys seem to sell cars like this, mix and match........ value limited

carjmark 12-21-2010 06:30 AM

RSA, Why?

Unless you just love RSA's my question is why? The RSA is not all that unique offering M030 suspension, bigger brakes, fixed wing, 17' wheels. For less than $27K you can buy a really nice 993 with M030 that is a better car in my opinion (suspension/exhaust/transmission/looks/resale...).

Plus this specific car is unlikely to carry any of the "rarity premium of RSA's" going forward as it has at least two mileage discrepancies as per the ebay history file, without further evidence you have to assume it's been crashed and repainted for salvage and it has the non-matching 993 motor.

It might make a great driver with a PPI, but I see it as wildly overpriced. If you want a RSA you can buy a clean original car for a few thousand more that you know the history of and will be worth more in the long run.

dave m 12-21-2010 08:09 AM

Has the special leather seat option too. ;)

+1

Jeff Alton 12-21-2010 12:18 PM

I am not sure that is even an 18K car.....

techweenie 12-21-2010 01:53 PM

Have to agree.

In pictures, it looks like it could be a $27K car, but then subtract 25% for salvage title and another 10% for non-matching engine...

Jeff Alton 12-21-2010 03:32 PM

and other missing bits..... and another 10% because of who is selling it... :)

Guys don't be so Ruff on this SWEET RSA I was originally going to buy it.
But had a Change a plans when I changed my job profession.

This truthfully is an Awesome RSA

The description isn't the most detailed and not the best photos to compliment the car.
But better than some other ebay ads with 1 photo and no description

If you were to see the plumbing for the oil cooler set up and all the hardwork that went into getting this car going you will see where the money is going.

I see it like this:

$9500 for the Vario ram engine + parts
$6500 for installing the Vario ram (shop rate) its a 45+ hour job just for the engine
$3500 for the G50-05 + LSD (rsa GEARING)
$1000 for the wheels
$1000 for the RSA wing (not carrera)
$750 Storage tray
$200 read seat belts
$8500-10,000 for the rolling shell (no run roof not Crashed! I checked every corner)

I know the mechanic who did the work ..... A certain Lance in the valley and I know his conversions are some of the best in this land. At one point this car had a 6 Speed trans
(the 6 speed shifter still in it)

RSA are pretty pricey ...check this history (ive been following it for years)

www.RSAmerica.net: Market Place/vehicles

there is one for $27k with 300k miles yikes.

I drove this car for 2 days and let me tell you... It's FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like stupid fast, and corners crazy like. Add a few bolts on and its ready to go.

There is some down falls though

Needs new chain housing gaskets
A good tune up
Transmission adjustment (the trannys good but feels funny)
Paint Polished
Toss the "upgraded seats" get some Recaros
Toss the silver gauges
Lower the car with some springs
Maybe some Light weight wheels and you got your self a Monster RSA for cheap.
965 brakes or 993TT
New Tail lights
Clean out heat exchangers

This is a car to drive the hell out of it and enjoy not to collect...
Its well worth it in my opinion. If this car is still around by June I may still buy it

I may be wrong here but I doubt someone could rebuild this exact same car for Under $27k

I went as far as having my personal mechanic check the RSA
Check it out in person......

chaozz 01-03-2011 01:21 PM

I see salvage title and want to run run away..

be way to hard to sell later on..
plus most insurance companies won't touch a car with a salvage title..

Jeff Alton 01-03-2011 02:21 PM

Really? What I see for sale is essentially a used 964 in below average cosmetic condition with unkown mechanicals all of which are not original to the car. Yes it was an RS America, but now is a RS America shell (and VIN) with a bunch of other 90's era parts on it.

That, and I don't get the RS America hype anyway, but I do like the lack of a sunroof! :)

Cheers

THE RSA HYPE

I liked it

When I see salvage I want to run to it!
and beat em up on the price , but I feel you
Although if sold in pieces you could get your money back or if the market for the car goes up you can sell it years later for
money back or at least most of it.

There is barely any "bolt ons" this rsa
Silver gauges
Upgraded seats ?
and a 993 Vario ram ? (big smile)

I swear its hard to find a RSA for under $30K and none come with Vario rams
Look how much Ilkos Salvage RSA went for.... sure this one doesnt have a super charger and some of the bolt ons but still in the same ball park

Jeff Alton 01-03-2011 05:23 PM

Not saying it may not be a fun car, but this car can't cash in on the RS America hype....

Danny_Ocean 01-03-2011 05:26 PM

Higest offer: $20k. The people have spoken...

Those are bogus offers lol

Although $20 grand does sound pretty cool :)
The could part is and make more money but that would be a crime in it's own.

Id say $24-25k would be fair (+ toss in a few lil extras)
$20k is a steal

This RSA is a Hype contender !
I hope no one buys it so I can buy :) down the road

Jeff Alton 01-03-2011 09:53 PM

Do you work for the seller? :)

Bone stock, all original, no salvage title.... the car in this condition would be worth your 24-25K suggestion, maybe.

Sure, it has cool parts on it, and could be parted out for more than that, maybe. But the same is true for any Porsche of the same era. Likely could get more for them in pieces than as a whole.

Cheers

trader220 01-04-2011 05:21 AM

The market has spoken and the value of this quasi RSA is not in line with what the seller is asking. There is very little RSA left of the car other then the shell / vin and the suspension. The rest is a mix of parts and some have been swapped in and out.
