Is there such a thing as a 4.6L engine?

I saw this auction on ebay for a Slantnose and in reading the description the owner says it has a 930 4.6L engine I am not familiar with that engine. I am far from an expert but is there really a 4.6L engine from a 930? Here is the link to the car it has already been relisted a couple of times
Porsche : 911 - eBay (item 230575517819 end time Jan-28-11 10:21:58 PST)

Ford made one and put it in the Mustang and F-150 in 1996. It was a nice OHC V-8 and finally moved Ford out of the stone age.

However, in Porsche terms, I think there may have been a 4.6L 928, but I'm not sure. It definitely does not sound reasonable for a 930.

Couldn't resist the opportunity to be a smart a$$.

Wow I heard of the Chevy conversions but a Ford conversion now that is a new one that should really be forgotten and never spoken of again : )

Looks like a hodge podge POS, that the owner has no idea about half of what it's comprised of. It's not even worth half what the current bid is.

Smells fishy

For what it's worth... I just took a look at that listing. There are a lot of red flags that pop up right away:

1. I'm selling my friend's car
2. 85-95K on a "full race engine"
3. the inability to spell either Porsche or Convertable
4. refering to it as a "Targa Convertable"
5. If you notice, it has been "Coverted" to a convertable
6. The complete lack of details on the engine.
7. The engine picture shows a set of Webers. Not a turbo.

The person selling this car has no idea what it car is.

Just did a bit of research just for fun... the 928 came in a 4.5, 4.7, 5.0, and 5.4 variety. Sorry, there has never been a factory 4.6L Porsche engine on a production car.

Certainly it doesn't look like a V8 in there...
Can't even spell "PORSHE" although 10 people bid on the car !

Makes you wonder ...

Cheers !

Perhaps they meant to say 3.6. There are many red flags.

Sometimes I wonder about ebay and the way people bid it seems legit sellers get lower bids than someone who places an ad like this and I wonder what the reserve is if it is not met at $10K why would people be willing to pay so much for this when there are many good cars out there for less

My best guess is that people who know little or nothing about cars, or specifically Porsches, and just think it looks cool and that the Porsche name is worth a premium. Prestige over performance.

In a case like this car, it will very likely be the ignorant selling to the stupid.

I had a co-worker back in the day who was thrilled with his new-to-him girl magnet car: a dark green Mitsubishi GT 3000, non turbo, front wheel drive, automatic, with vinyl interior. To a non-car person, it's still a cool looking car; to a car lover, all you can think is: "what's the point?" It's like a V-6 mustang... why?

As a car guy, I'll never be able to understand this kind of purchase. All style over substance.

Well, if it had it, wider track, different pickup points & geometry on both the front and rear suspension for squat resistance, anti-dive under braking and an improved camber/toe-in curve. It would also come with 930 brakes - in the rear at a minimum, as 911 rear calipers don't fit a 930 trailing arm. The 930 was originally built primarily for homologation purposes so they could race the 934/935s.

However, this looks rather like an SC with carbs and a hodge-podge body kit (965 bumper cap, 930 slant front/quarters/boxed rockers, turbo flares and the tea-tray). I wonder how much of it is steel?
