1977 911S Targa value
Hi all,
Any comments on the value of a car I am interested in purchasing? I don't want to blindly lowball him although I think his price of $15K is way too high. A few facts: - Carerra tensioner upgrade is done - New paint and tires - High mileage at around 207,000 miles - NO paperwork of any kind beyond paint and carerra tensioner upgrade - Interior is good including dash. Not perfect though. Looks like the driver seat was redone at some point and has lost a bit of shape. - The car drives very well with good acceleration compared to other 911S and 911SC's that I have driven. He has been trying to sell for over a year and has had very little interest Thanks in advance for your help. ![]() ![]() |

I think your intuition is right. If the car were low mileage and fully documented with no paint or mechanical issues, and fully optioned, it could be worth mid teens. This car is none of those things. If it is rust and accident free, and the car is mechanically tight, $10k would be about fair market value. $207k on a 1977 2.7 motor with no rebuild history is pretty amazing. These motors were the worst of the 2.7 batch...

At that price you could easily find a very nice SC, carrera or even a decent g50 carrera. He's way off the market for a car like that. 10k is a bit high in my opinion too.

For the money I'd buy an SC or 3.2 I do think its high, as others have said, given no motor rebuild history. Does it still have the 5 blade fan? How about all the emissions stuff? At the very least, if it were mine, those would be two items I'd change right off the bat.

Thanks to all for the comments.
According to the mechanic that maintained the car for the past 10 years he is sure that there was an engine rebuild somewhere in the car's past otherwise it would be in rough shape performance wise. The fan is eleven-bladed and the exhaust has been upgraded. I'm thinking of offering him $7500 and would be willing to go as high as $8500. Any thoughts on my price range? ![]() |

If he wants 15k I personally would not bother offering him anything and just move on. SO many fish in the sea.
