Value of 1989 mint 930 turbo

Recently located a 1989 930 turbo in MINT condition. All stock and original inside out. Original red color with black interior. Fully optioned. Not a scratch on this one. Even tires are like brand new.

Fully documented low milage of 25K two owners car. Probably the most perfect 89 turbo I've ever seen.

PPI done by Porsche dealer showing all perfect. With G50 and mint condition like this, I think it may represent a good investment.

Owner is asking for lots of money. Wondering what are your opinions on this one. Any input will help.

Thanks in advance.....Steve

1989 Turbo coupe

I would caution against any vehicle as an "investment," but a 1989 turbo is certainly an impressive post '73 911 that should appreciate moderately in the future.

I'm not sure what the asking price is for the one you have mentioned, but a quick check of Hemmings, Autotrader & Sloan yielded a few similar examples (described as mint):

1) 1989 coupe, 34k miles, $59k
2) 1989 coupe, 23k miles, $74k
3) 1989 cabrio, 25k miles, $75K.

The asking price versus the selling price is another matter, I'd say at least a little negotiation is in order on these higher priced 911's.

I feel that values have crept up a bit in the past year. Red, white, black and silver are probably the most common colors. I personally would pay a bit more for a special color, (i.e., slate grey, Arrow blue, etc.).

I'll guess a low (actual selling price) of around $55k to a high of around $70k for a mint red 25k mile turbo coupe.

It just so happens that last night I caught an episode of a show called "What's my car worth".It is a show where 2 so called "experts" examine and evaluate autos which are then auctioned off. O ne of the cars shown last night was an 87 Turbo with 8k miles. To makea long story short the car was given the highest grade for condition and a so-so grade for collectility due the # of units produced. The bottom line is the car sold for $70k at the Gooding auction. My personal opinion was that was "silly" money. I think that an exceptional 930 of this genre should bring $40k +/-.

The MY 89 turbo commands a significant premium due to the only year of the [G-50] 5 speed. Your opinion of mid $40's is right on...for a 4 speed but probably 20-25% low for a 89.

Thanks for your inputs. I think I'm pretty much in line about the value of this vehicle. I'm thinking of $50K and owner is asking for $55K.

When I mentioned "investment", I mean the potential of good resell value in the long run. Not thinking of buying it and keep it as garage queen only. I will drive and enjoy it for sure. I'm in Toronto so there won't be much milage put on given the fact that I can't drive it in Winter months.

I think being 89 with G50 make it somewhat more desirable. Turbo lag is not as obvious as the 4 spd based on my brief test driving. Red is not my first choice but I love the black interior. I'll post some pictures if I end up getting it.

Beware on investment!

Don't all air- cooled porsches have good resale values today?
