A Pair of 16x8s, Refinished/Unused Value

I have a pair of 911 16x8's that I thought I'd end up using on a project. I bought the wheels from a fellow pelican several years ago, and about 3 years ago, sent them to Al Reid for refinishing (black center/anodized lips). They are still in the box from Al Reid and I'm not sure if I'll get around to that other project. I'm looking to sell these and wasn't sure what they would be worth. I've seen many go between 1000 to 1300 that had a used finish, but how much is it worth having them already refinished/unused?

You may get 1000-1300 from the right buyer, someone who is looking for that finish and matches the finish of their front wheels. I picked up a pair of 16x8s about six months ago that were in very nice shape but did need refinish (I wanted differrent color center) for $800.

Depends on if you get the "Al Reed on a Good Day" finish or the "Al Reed on a Bad Day" finish on them.

Assuming you got a good finish on them (hopefully you did), in the stock black/anodized configuration, you'll easily get $1300+ for them.

A new set of 16x9 just went for around $2100 on ebay, this week.

Prices of the 8s and 9s are on the rise, with no end in sight.

I didn't realize he had both good days and bad. I opened the box and took out the first wheel for pictures. They look great to me, I noticed though the lug holes have paint on them but not sure if a buyer would care about that. Also notice he engraved his initials as well as mine on the side.
A part of me thinks it would be cool to leave these in the box for the next 20 years, but my wife wants me to clean out the garage.
Also, any comments on the stamp 1078?

1078 is the production date, I believe. It would mean they were made in October 1978.

actually, I have to correct myself on the date stamp. It means the 10th week of 1978, i.e., around March 1978.

IMHO, I don't think this is really true. Perhaps before Porsche reissued the 8 & 9 x 16" Fuchs it was, but since you can buy a brand new wheel for ~$800, it has pretty much capped the previous rise in value of 20-30 year-old wheels, regardless of how nicely they are refinished. Duty cycles weaken even forged wheels, and there is no way of knowing what kind of stresses a used wheel has been exposed to in its life. Most people are going to choose a new wheel over a used one if the price is not significantly less.

if you could show us where we can get a new factory 16x9 (or 8), for $800, I think there are a lot that would appreciate that information.

last time I looked, a new OEM 16x9 was around $1400, when you add in tax/shipping it was roughly $3,000 for a pair.

But if they are available somewhere, new, for roughly half that, that would be great.

McLovin ,

What model year , or production year ....did the 1st digit/digits switch from corresponding to month ... to week ?

And whenever they did , were weeks 1- 9 prefaced by a zero ?

thx for any info.

Last time I called Sunset Porsche in Oregon, that was the price I was quoted for NIB Fuchs. That was a couple of years ago, and I know there has been about a 30-40% price increase in the last few years across the board on all Porsche parts, so I called them just now to check. The current price is $1142.93 for a brand new 9 x 16" Fuchs. Sorry to get you excited with outdated information, but I still would contend that this new production sets an upper price limit for an older pair at about $2K max if they are perfectly refinished, since brand new would be < $2300/pair. I don't see the market continuing to skyrocket like it was back in the 90s and early 2000s as long as these are available new again.

TT
