2.2S MFI system?
Any opinions on how much a 2.2S MFI system with VERY little wear is worth? Should I let the eBay gods decide?

I don't know about gods, but there are at least real buyers on eBay. Here, you will get lots of opinions. The last time I had something rare to sell, I got useless value advice on the forums, as the part sold for nearly double what I was told.
2.2S MFI is something wanted by a handful of people and needed by a few. If it's the last thing needed to restore a car, you might be surprised at what the bidding gets to. Thing is, with an auction, you need to have two people who want something...

Funny I think you are right on w/ your asking price. I would place on the early S registry. It seems parts like this sell quickly there.

If you're willing to ship it, I'd call up some of the high end British restoration shops like Autofarm and Jaz and the like. With a weak dollar and the greater rarity of that stuff over there, some of those guys will pay an arm and a leg for things. A while back I sold a set of '66 Solexes over there for $4000.

So I tried the S registry and got a VERY rude reception.
My next step may be eBay. How should I list the system? $2000 starting bid with no reserve? $1 starting bid with a reserve? ???? Any suggestions? Thanks, BK

Well Early S is not a friendly environment to newcomers. And by that I mean anyone on their forum for less than 7 years or so.
I generally list valuable items on eBay with a $0.99 starting bid and no reserve. It seems to get more people watching and bidding. Takes a strong stomach, though, when the bidding builds slowly.

Hi,
In my opinion a $1 starting bid and no reserve on Ebay give you a selling price as close you can ever get to the correct market value. IF you put in some work with the ad, of course. By that I mean many GOOD pictures and an honest representation, and providing shipping cost not only within the US but also to Europe, Asia and Australia. Usually the guys claiming they get poor response on their Ebay auctions only provide a crappy cell phone picture and a description leaving too much for the buyer to interpret. Good luck! I would add also that your word that the 'throttle shafts are tight' is one thing, but that same opinion from a respected third party is worth actual dollars in the auction. As you may know, tightening throttle shafts is a $1K+ proposition.

So maybe get the system checked out by a pro? That actually sounds like a pretty good idea.
Almost comical how the word from a professional engineer with a masters in precision engineering doesnt matter. ![]() I am still not sure about the eBay thing. Just curious about which approach I should take if I decide to go that route. I would rather have this system on an early S than on my shelf another 10 years, but I also want fair market value.

I was actually being genuine when I stated an engineer does not carry the same clout as an experienced mechanic with a high school education. Especially an engineer who may have a financial gain by selling parts. Nobody else finds that funny? I respect Tech's opinion and think he had a very good point.
And yes, I admit I was a little defensive on the S site. I guess after getting beat up here trying to sell the engine I was a little jumpy. I admire people who have the ability to sound tactful even when annoyed. Obviously not one of my stronger qualities.
