Your thoughts on RSA vs. 964 Widebody M491

Between a 1993 RSA (with all 4 options) and a M491 964 Carrera 4 Coupe, assuming that all being equal in terms of mechanical, mileage, color, condition, etc., how would you rate the two in:
1) Desirability
2) Collectability
3) Liquidity

Thanks for your thoughts and insights! :)

Bump...anyone?

Also, correction...since all 1994 Carrera 4 Coupe's are widebodies, the M491 option is not applicable here.

The current issue of Excellence Magazine has a brief discussion of the 964 RSA, generally favorable. Personally, I would stay away from a 964 C4 as the AWD is complex, expensive and will ultimately require major repairs.

You will have a much more lively debate if you post these questions on the Rennlist 964 board. I for one would be interested to hear the various opinions about the RSA vs. 964 C4 Widebody.

I would probably pick the RSA over the C4 after having my C4 now for a year or so. I think the rear wheel drive experience is more desirable over the all wheel drive in the 964.

Thanks for the replies. Noted on the complexities of the awd and requirement for maintenance. I also agree that the C2 rwd layout may ultimately be more rewarding than that of the awd. Were it not the fact that IMHO, the 964 Widebody (without the large wing) is one of the most beautiful shape Porsche has ever produced, my choice would be simple. I mean, the argument for the Speedsters is the same...ultimately, it's all about the beautiful shape, right?

Anyway, keep the thoughts coming...I'd like to hear from all perspectives.

Just one data point, my opinion:

I have no desire for an M491, especially a C4. On the other hand, I have been semi-serious about finding an RSA, but only one without a sunroof- Gotta have headroom for a helmet!

I never want a turbo-look car without a turbo.

That being said, plenty of RSAs have seen lots of track time, and are no longer pristine. Maybe as more of them get crunched on the track, the garage queens will increase in value.
Who knows?

All good points. Thank you.

I do agree that there seems to be very few RSA's that have not seen major track time, or one that has not been beaten to death.

GS you know my thoughts on this one. Let me know how it turns out.

I would like to find a nice RSA, but then it would see major track time and get beaten to death!

Maybe I should just keep racing the lowly 944.

RSA is a more enjoyable, sporting car.. but for an everyday car, a Widebody 964 would be my preference. A 964 with all options is just another C2, albeit w/o power steering.

Each are low productions numbers but they appeal to a different buyer obviously. I imagine the RSA as a more "liquid" asset.
