964 Backdate value
Time for a new project. What should this backdated 1990 964 sell for?

If it was a "Singer" it would be a what, $150K car.
Not sure what the market is for a backdated 964. Certainly not a car for everyone.

Hard to say, but I'd put it in the mid-high 20s. It's certainly worth +8-10K over an unmodified 964. But 964s are soft in the market at the moment.

Backdate Value
That's a tough one, but I sure like it. Would think it has to be less than a good 993, more than a 964. Like so many customs obvious comment is need to find the right buyer who wants your combo, then the market may be less important than the cost to replicate. Mark

This is a customized car and there is not a chance of getting a premium over a nice 964 just because the seller spent a lot of money on it. And, with all due respect, this is not a completed backdate but rather an assortment of earlier parts attached to a 964 with mismatched paint. There is a large and growing group of Porsche owners falling in love with the 964 for the underrated and overlooked qualities it has and several boards have their own section where today's talk is of steadily rising prices. But as with all segments, only for a good car. |

I like the spirit of it, but feel that the execution is lacking. The bodywork gaps and what look like paint variations are... not so good... I like the seat style but they look like vinyl(?) sides and the rears don't match. Those fuchs look odd to my eyes too. The overall appearance does not give an impression of quality work.
I like to keep an eye on 964 prices and good cars appear to move quickly in the low 20's. That's a come-back from the past few years. I can't see this one fetching more than a what a very very worn out stock 964 would go for.

TRE 964 backdate
Dave B from TRE brought to the Treffen a stunning example of "how to do this 964 backdate right". It was really amazing. I asked Dave what the owner had $$ -wise into this backdate and the owner was "in" about $90K large.
Keep in mind the owner "was-all-in". As for this example, I would say Mid-teens. As far as the 964 market goes, a stock 964 has increased in value over the last 2 yrs. and they are worth at least 30-40% more than previous yrs. I believe Bruce A once told me after seeing my 88' Carrera backdate 11 yrs ago at Treffen 1, that he had always wanted to do a backdate on a 964....maybe he's in the market???? ![]() |

Like the theory but agree the execution is poor. Original style tail and signal lights would be more pleasing. Paint on door is obviously non-matching. It is a neat car but I would hate to be trying to sell it. I disagree that 964 prices are on the rise.

964 prices do seem to be on the rise yet there are a number of 964s (C2 coupes) for sale here on this board that have not moved...

Kinda cool .....
I agree something looks a bit of but just a bit off.... The major to me it is the undercarriage visiability and the wheels. The wheels look too skinny and small . I love Fuchs but in this case I think Cups would look better. Also think too much of the front and rear undercarriage is showing. I would try to find a stainless muffler skirt for the rear. Front bumper is tougher. It probably would need to be made taller (reverse channeling?). A good body man could handle it. I too would replace both front and rear lights while adding the proper Grill and TTG lights........ This car is easily a high teens or low twenties car..... as is.

Seems like a nice conversion, it is tough to judge from pictures. An 80k mile 964 with a new top end and option 220 LSD is worth low to mid 20's IMO. Depending on the quality of the work it may be worth the same money to the right person.
The car could probably be parted for $15k, so it is worth more that that.

I'd say low to mid 20's for the right buyer. Is it me or does the paint on the front fenders not match the rest of the car.....or maybe the door not matching the body?

really critical eyes here I see, well in case you weren't aware of it this car looks to be a high
dollar backdate from an English companie either 9ff or something similar based in the UK.. I believe when they started their backdates a few years back it ran approximately $50k BP! Ok maybe the R light style and so forth is a little offputting but the Fuchs are 17's special order just for the 964/993 offset. Even 3.6 installs stateside get the poor exhaust exposure on early chassis but who's complaining when you've got that kind of uhmph! just saying this aint a cheap put together...sorry, Bert

This is nice but not great. Alot of gap issues - especially at the front lenses. The interior is wrong and the stance is too high. Window trim and door handles need to be chrome or better yet polished nickel. Generally looks good, but to me - it needs to be redone. Get rid of the console too.

If this car has a salvage title, it would be very difficult to price.

I think it's very cool. The trouble with backdating a 964 is the rockers. They need extensive modification to look passable, and the front shut panel needs major work. Backdating an impact bumper car is tens of thou$ands of dollars less expensive. I think this car is a true diamond in the rough. Chrome the window trim and do a little paintwork, maybe some white 'Porsche' side scripts and you end up with an every-day driveable long hood.
I drove my '88 backdate every single day for two years (rain, sleet and snow). NOTHING puts a smile on your face like seeing these cars waiting for you in the parking lot of wherever you are. Life is too short not to know what that feels like. A 911 is the everyday supercar, which means it is equally as good schlepping grocerys as it is at breaking the sound barrier. ![]() Buy, drive, tinker, and enjoy it.
