Barn find ? How bout this field find!
 

The other day I was talking with a prospective new customer when he mentioned a old PORSCHE that he say hes owned for some time , he asked about getting it started back up again !He did not know what year etc. but it had been sitting for about 20years , what he did not mention was the fact it had been in this field , in one spot for the entire time. What a shock I was in for today when I went to go check it out ! turns out its a70 911t nonsunroof coupe 2.2t-911/07 motor with a 915 box .Heres where it gets interesting. some time in the cars past , it was updated and I mean they cliped the fenderwells and added all the mount brackets etc. for late model bumpers The vin tags match they installed ac and late oiltank , trans and interior , You can see what looks like early non power sport seats and some other custom console parts so ,think I can get her running by the weekend ?:eek:

That's a sad sight :(. Hope you can get it going again.

Looks like someone spent some real money on the car to "update" it when this was the fashion.

I will never understand why people do that, leave a car like that outside to rot. If you can't park it under cover then sell it IMO

The idiot that "Updated" the car could have spent the money and effort to properly maintain a wonderful piece of equipment. Instead the result is a complete POS.

I will be updating soon , the car was towed out of the field and got pressure washed , we then had it flatbed towed to my place on MONDAY , Finaly was able to clearly see what this was all about , car has been clipped across the front with a short hood nose and the rear was updated also , was a good job done , as it was hard to find the weld seams , more to follow .

I wanted update where it stands so far , car has been pressure washed and wheels were swapped out , turns out car has oe 7-8x16 fuchs but the pirelli p-7 tires were rotted off , no for the GOLD car has WEBER 40IDAP carbs and when I removed them for inspection , po had tuned them 32mm venturies big jets , manifolds are ported to ported heads 35mm 007 dist. from 69-71 911S . I pulled the plugs and filled the cyls with blaster , used a whole can and let it sit overnight engine turns over by hand ! 22mm wrench on fan nut .I will let sit another day and in the mean time I removed the fuel sender and was suprised at how clean the tank is ! the fuel has turned to thinner , but thankfully no rust !The pump is rusted out , which is too bad because its not rebuildable . The rd shroud is just that -red 2.2T - that has been hotrodded - put in a battery and tried spinning it , starter was dead pulled it out and cleaned it up , cleaned all cables and terminals reinstalled it drained the oil and not too bad ! no metal on the drain plugs ! refilled and spun it over , 20psi oil on the guage at free cranking speed with no plugs in it ! but wait! bad clank noise coming from trans ? when spinning goes away when clutch depressed looks like maybe a mainshaft issue or clutch issue ? gonna pull the motor today but first I will run a comp test .

The rd shroud is just that -red 2.2T

Red shrouds were put on S motors not T motors, hence the request to check the engine number. May just be a red shroud on a T motor, but it is worth a quick check. Good luck with your find.

ITS A 911SC shroud on a 2.2t motor , looks like motor was apart at one time not long before being parked 2.2R case , carb heads.

UPDATE - today got the motor out and on the stand ! then went to drain the trans oil , removed the plug , and NO OIL! magnet full of crap ? , loose operating shaft , worn bushings , pulled the clutch and found a sport pressure plate and worn out disc. rear main not leaking , but will change it out anyway.Then on to teardown , pulled all tin and fan and shroud , wire harness etc . lots of rat nests and debris in there .Pulled the exhaust off and not bad , looks like newer -at that time heat exchangers were put on , muffler from a 76 egr car was modified with a giant outlet pipe , but muffler is a coveted two in one out .On to the fuel tank , drained the varnish , removed the pump or whts left of it , maybe able to salvage it if I can find a rebuider , looks like 600.00 ? for one new ! removed all the rotted fuel hoses and VW fuel filters .next is a motor teardown , inspection and see what suprises lay ahead .One detail that got my curiosity is the cylinders are aluminum , where as the T motors had castiron cyls .as standard . solid chain tensioners mean never having to worry about a collapse!!. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1319529731.jpg

you don't need a $600 pump for those carbs:eek:, a $30 facet will be fine:)

What distributor is on it? That might give you a clue of what they did inside the engine. Though if you are taking it apart either way, you'll know soon enough.

Sounds like they parked it because they blew the gearbox, the clutch, or both.

If it is not too personal or inappropriate...
 

may I ask how good of a deal you got on that rig?
