What do you think this 78 SC is worth?

200k+ miles, original engine and tranny but supposedly serviced regularly.

Looking for my first SC/Carrera

1978 Porsche 911 SC

Agree 9 seems low 11 sounds around what would be realistic- but only after a ppi and if you can see the work that's been done- ie top end rebuild- stuff like that

'78 sc

The color looks a bit odd for maroon, could it be "burnt" orange? I think they made a shade that color in the 70's (a plus if it's orange, at least to me).

If the paint is original, no sign of accident damage or rust, decent interior, etc., and it runs/drives good, I'd say $10k to $12k is fair.

Some people seem to think 915's need to be rebuilt every 75k to 100k miles, I think that's a load of crap (maybe if raced or the owner can't shift...). I've talked to a few people (and read about many more) who have seen 200k miles out of an original 915. 207k miles on the original drivetrain indicates proper driving techniques and good maintenance.

That said, at that mileage expect a 915 rebuild soon! SC engines are somewhat lengendary when it comes to longevity (check if tensioner update was performed), very well documented. Looks to be a good car on the surface.

Kiln Red...

I think we have a winner, good job Max.

I just looked up a sweet kiln red 911SC coupe at a San Antonio Porsche dealership. They commented that it was a special order color.

I'd say +$1K, or a bit more if it's original paint - great color.

I checked this link: http://www.adelgigs.com/911colours.shtml

and there was no kiln red in 1978. I don't know how reliable that link is, but if it checks out then perhaps the car wasn't painted the original color. The owner did mention that the car has been repainted before.

The closest color in there looks to be Copper Brown Metallic.
