Stunning '74 mexico blue targa
What do you guys think about this one?
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/661078-1974-mexico-blue-porsche-911-targa-3-owner-66k-like-new.html Love the color. Love the condition. I personally love Targas. Does the sporto help or hurt value? IMO she seems priced right for a car in this condition.

Interesting...
Not too many like that one around. Three things stand out:
Color - Mexico blue - a big plus in my book. Steelies - easy to change to Fuchs, but they're so cool it would be hard to do - a plus. Sportomatic - usually a big minus, but on a '74 Targa, I think my wife would flip over it. I'd call it a wash. An enthusiast won't go for a Targa anyway, so it should not hurt the value too much. Not many around for sure, it would be nice to preserve one like this. Wow, that was an ugly horn center, what were they thinking! From a collectible standpoint it's an interesting car for not too much coin. It probably won't ever be worth big money, but who thought a nice 356B would bring upwards of $50k..... |

2.7 Targa
Cool looking car but way too expensive with big rebuild cost risk. Guessing the market for 2.7, Targa, Sporto is pretty thin so hard to find a buyer. If motor hasn't been rebuilt 2.7's typically required rebuild at under 75K miles as they ran hot, stressed cases , wore valve guides, etc. (especially if been in Florida w/ac). So you have one of least popular series, weakest motors, unpopular sporto, potential rebuild. It does look like a fun, unique car, but there are alot of other cool options for $24K.

74
You still end up as toast, just slower w/out reactors. Don't want to be drawn into a whether 2.7's are weak debate w/a 74' owner, just trying to point out potential issues to a shopper.

She made it to ebay:
A 40 year old open air Porsche with auto and air in a beautiful color and awesome condition? IMO the ultimate weekend cruiser. I thought low 20s was a fair price. It will be interesting to see where she ends up.

Ended at $23,900
I thouigjht it was a nice looking Targa but for the same $$ I would rather have a nice Carrera.

The market set the price...
I would rather have a nice late Carrera too, but generally the people on this forum are more "enthusiast" versus "collector."
There are many more Carrera's running around in similar condition (and not Mexico blue) than there are Mexico blue sporto '74 targa's - so I'd say this checks quite a few more boxes for a collector that a better performing/driving late Carrera will.... |

I had a feeling that was a shill bid just to get the ball rolling.
Like you guys have said, $24k is a nice Carrera, maybe even a driver quality 356. With that in mind, maybe I should offer $15k? $12k? ![]()
