1968 912 mellow yellow - what yall think?
1968 Porsche 912
He's rebuilding the foot pedal mechanism right now, replacing the bushings with brass ones. Pedals were not moving all that freely. Common issue with this era Porsche I guess. He claims the mileage is around 20,000 but after looking through the receipts in his kitchen I found one that shows 60,xxx miles on the car when it was getting some work done. Car is overall pretty solid and just want to know what the pros (you guys kinda) think. Message I got from the seller: ""It's a yellow non-targa in very good shape, no rust except the stupid floorboards. When I purchased it the windows were down and the car had standing water in it. They're not so bad that I needed to do anything about it. Figured I'd get to the interior some day. The exterior I took care of decades ago. I stripped all the paint off because it was bad, cracking and faded and green. Thirty years ago I nobody was thinking keep the car perfectly original. Mine is close but I did make minor changes: weber carbs and header exhaust, some body changes like s style trim and I welded up the '68 marker lights. The paint is still pretty good. It's '72 porsche signal yellow. There is one spot on a door that's a little bubble from something. It's not rust. The car was epoxy-primered, skim coated and boarded, so it's perfectly flat. I think I have pics of the body with the paint stripped off. All the important places that you don't want rust are solid on the car, battery box, suspension points, windows. Only the floorpans are rusty. It's always been covered in a garaged, never driven in salt or even rain, lived in TN for 12 years. The interior is just OK and needs some sprucing up. Headliner is in good shape. Of course there's a crack in the dash. Everything else is fine, just a little old. The floorboards should be replaced. All the glass is intact. Engine and body numbers match. 20,xxx miles (yeah, it sat for a long time on the side of someone's house and then I rarely drive it). Fuch's with the hearts, basically new Bridgestone Potenza tires. Engine runs great. 5-speed is good, clutch good. I have the original carbs plus some other parts and manuals. It's a good car, not at 100% but wouldn't take much to be perfect especially because of the low miles and lack of rust. "" I could pick it up for around $20k or maybe a tiny bit less. What do you guys think? Nice little runner to enjoy for now and maybe sell when its time? Or not worth my time replacing the floor pans etc.. Let me know. Thank as always. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by ItzaMe; 01-31-2020 at 02:29 PM.. |

No such thing as a cheap Porsche. With the market cooling- people arent fighting each other to purchase one “when it’s time” to sell.

I would like to buy that car, i have a SS 3.2 and 915 with all the parts needed to convert it. A full carrera frt susp. and a set of deep six and sevens to make it a nice sleeper. Let me know if you pass on it.
Thanks Richard |

It’s a non-targa.
Not sure why he didn’t just say coupe. I will most likely be purchasing when the weather breaks. Anything to look out for? |

Royal pain in the arse to put a 915 into a SWB. Put something 2.4l or smaller in it with the stock 901 (refreshed). You can convert it to 5sod, but 4 is just fine with 160-180hp.

Bro, I’ve got an idea... crowdfund it. Make a video. Post it in your YouTube. And ask for the money.

I went to check the car out again yesterday and got to take it for a spin.
Now to decide on if I'm making the purchase or not. Here are a few clips of the under body as well as the car driving. Embedding the videos from youtube isn't working for me right now if someone can do it that would be great. Better pics to come. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5qdHW1wLfo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJDFGOMIoIU Last edited by ItzaMe; 06-29-2020 at 08:11 AM.. |
