Early '65 911 moldy barn find sells for $42,000 on ebay?!?!

Am I out of touch or is this a really high price for a car needing this much work? And the seller doesn't even mention if it has the original engine!

The buyer seems to be legitimate too...has 1300+ feedback.

Moldy white '65

Here's another '65 that is rusty, crash damaged with the VIN plate in the wrong place, and has a 1970 911E engine...already up to $20,000?

Rusty black '65

Man I must be out of touch. Are the '65 911s really reaching 911S levels in price?

Yes- There seems to be a feeding frenzy for early 911 in Europe- ALL of these prices are driven by the very cheap Dollar- they don't seem like such bargains for us Stateside.

Yeah, but the Euro has fallen a lot against the dollar lately. These both are very early '65 production...one of the first 1000 911s ever made. With the prices of the '64 built cars and S models stretching up well over $100k, it makes sense that these would rise sharply too.

My Bali blue January '65 production #300278 (the 278th 911 made) will be up for auction in the next few weeks...will be interesting to see what that fetches...it's in a lot nicer shape with matching numbers and the Solexes.

crazy. my friend just sold a '66 on ebay that was a pretty nice original survivor with low miles, no rust and fresh paint. $35k.

Wow...that's a nice price for a good '66...was it matching numbers? Was it a buy it now, or was it bid up to that amount?

yes, it was a matching number car, full history from day one, wood steering wheel. He paid $7k for the car and just put a coat of paint on it. It sold within a coupe hours, BIN.

Ah, I see...great deal for both buyer and seller on that one! Wonder what it would have sold for if the auction had been allowed to continue.

Who knows. I thought it was over priced since it was not a restored car.

A lot of people prefer (and often pay more for) unrestored cars that are very original but nicely kept.

Any way we could get this thread moved to the Marketplace Discussion forum? That's where this thread belongs.

You and me both. It was truly a great car. But it really wasn't worth any more than $15k to me.

The open/close vent windows alone are worth a small fortune.

Are you talking about a '65 911 not being a good choice for a driver?

Most of the handling oddities of the early cars were solved with wider wheels and better tires. There's no real reason they can't drive as well as a '69+

Really, your from Madagascar? I think all old cars do not really make good drivers because parts are increasing difficult and more expensive to find.

With what has happened in the last 6 months, I'm beginning to wonder if trading my 1968 911T straight across for a 1986 3.2l Carrera was a losing deal on my end...

I wouldn't be wondering... There are currently three Ts being offered for $40,000 to $50,000 on the various boards. Early cars are starting to rise again. It is 2007 all over again!

Good news for the sellers! But man....I just don't get it. I understand supply and demand and all that but.....why so much money for a basket case?

Oh well, why try and figure it out, go with the flow I guess! Prices aside I wish I never sold my '66. So in that respect I can understand the demand signal
