What's the typical engine issues for a '99 Carrera?

Thinking of buying a '99 cab and have been warned about engine issues. I've owned MANY early 911's ('69-'86), but never water-cooled other than a '99 Boxster which was not an S and SLOW. This has 97k on it, and has a great carfax/autocheck (which obviously have nothing to do with mechanical). Thanks for any input!

Go to the other major forum and search "IMS" and don't freak out. They just require a bit more research than anyother Porsche.

The 3.4L engine is the issue itself. It's way underpowered, especially in a cab. I drove a 3.4L cab and an 01 boxster S back to back on some country roads, and the boxster felt much nimbler, quicker and tossable. Do yourself a favour and get a 3.6.
