Flipper season again?
Anybody else notice the bevy of WTBs for long hoods, any condition, location, model, etc. from no or low-post-count members lately? Accompanied by daily or nearly daily bumps, no less.
What's everyone's take on this? Hard to believe it is seasonal as it seems very late to start on a restoration at this point in the year. Euro has been weak for the past 2 months, FWIW, implying (slightly?) less overseas demand. I chuckle at the brazeness - a la: I am not doing the searching (there ARE long hoods posted for sale here, ya know)- no, I am letting the sellers come to me.

Hi
Its more then flipper season, everybody wants a long hood.
Cars are being dragged out of barns and what not to get sold. Most people know these are 40 year old cars with a limited supply still being road worthy. It's only natural, that early 911's are going up....have you priced new Porsches lately. |

Now in 993 land ...

Classic car prices have doubled since 1999 in Germany and all over Europe. Part of the reason is the volatility in the economy and the uncertainty around the Euro. Many people feel that an investment in a tangible asset is a smart idea, especially if you can enjoy / drive it. People looking for long hoods and other classics in the US partly feed this market. It is a free economy and country here, so why the bile?
Here the index, from the german magazine 'Der Spiegel' ![]() G |

George,
no bile in my original post. Traipsing into this forum, not introducing oneself or contributing to technical discussions but solely soliciting offers to sell, fairly aggressively at that does raise some eyebrows - it smacks of "I don't really care about the enthusiast aspect of this comunity. I just want to harvest it for personal gain". I doubt anyone who has a long hood they are considering selling, more or less irrespective of condition these days, needs a "white knight" who is offering to take the car in question of the sellers hands. Just my $0.02

Enthusiasts sites tend to attract such fishing expeditions, though I don't know why. In my experience, sites devoted to cars tend to have an inflated sense of their value, with few deals to be had. Those selling will just suffer the minor annoyance of low-ball offers.

To ard's comment, I think there have been several European posters here who are not really a part of the Pelican communty at all but are here simply to find a car for a buyer back in Europe.

Usually goods deals do not come from car sites... |
