Hi there !
Would like to know if prepurchase inspection at a regular Porsche dealer would be recommended for a Carrera 3.2 ('87). Should I go for a private shop instead ? Thanks for your input guys ! (Newbie to Porsches ![]() Louis |

IMHO, most dealers are more versed in the water cooled cars unless they have some older techs. If you find one with some factory techs in their 50s'60s, they probably know air cooled cars. If not, find a good indy that knows these cars.

Use an independent shop that knows the Air Cooled cars. Porsche dealers usually have the techs up to date on the latest cars. The car is 25 years old. You need someone who specializes in Air Cooled. Try a search on the tech forum for a recommended independent in your area.
Good Luck with the car. |

For the reasons mentioned already, use an independant shop with a mechanic well versed in air cooled 911 Porsches. I had an experience with a recommended independant shop and was
told that all 3.2 engines and all 915 transaxles need to be rebuilt at 80,000 miles which is simply not the case. Take the process one step further and request the mechanics credentials. |

And they'll charge more! That may be far down on the list for choosing a PPI garage, but it is on it.
