Mid 70's Carrera Whaletail - DID THEY MAKE THIS?
I am pretty well versed about the FG molded to a steel lid for the 1975 US Carreras, 76-77 Euro Carreras and the 1980 Weissach tails. I know there are several fiberglass renditions and I understand there is the all fiberglass IROC tail.
I purchased this car from the original owner, who has told me the tail is an original. However, it is all fiberglass and I am pretty sure Porsche didn't make any all fiberglass turbo style tails. Can anyone confirm or deny such? Thanks in advance! ![]()

Your correct in the fact that it is not original Porsche. Although I can not tell you who made it.

If your speaking of the lip being glass instead of a bolt-on rubber piece....then yes....so far , I have seen no glass lip , normal width & length factory whaletails (notice I say 'so far' , as I try to never say never).
If you mean , no metal insert ...some normal width all-glass base whaletails were made. They will normally have a part number stamped on the inner side , or in the center groove of the center inner support (just as the metal inserts do - same with the all-glass base versions). These all glass base versions are less common , and seem to be an over the counter version. |
