One of those annoying opinions please posts - 1970 coupe
Don't know much about it seller states has 2.7l motor. It suppose is guaranteed to be rusty beyond your wildest expectations so I am aware this is a restoration/hot rod candidate, not a survivor class concours car!!!
Asking is 8k which seems low and I have a friend or two in the area who could check it out for me. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Jonny042; 10-22-2012 at 01:51 AM.. |

Could be a good deal at $8K, but the devil is in the details. See if you can get some photos of the pan with the car on a lift. Closeups on the front suspension mounts, under the rear suspension mounts (swing arm) and around the jack points. Also the base of the door striker panels with the doors open. If you have friends in the area, have them press up from under the rear shelf with the engine lid open. It should feel solid; quite possibly will feel like cornflakes.
Also, the car is not a factory color, and 'resale red' was often used by car lots and flippers to move cars back in the day. You'll want to have your friends look for masking marks around the window and other seals.

Is that a Suzuki Samurai in the background? ?
As mentioned.. hit or miss.. maybe a good deal depending how bad the rust is or how bad the 2.7 failed.

I feel that if you are considering buying a 911 in some sort of project form, try to get a car that you like to begin with. If you like the way this one is set up, and are willing to roll the dice a little on how bad off the mechanicals are, or how bad the rust is, $8000 is not a bad deal. If you hate duck tails, hate red, hate the seats, and want wider wheels, you should look elsewhere.
I wanted techweenie's backdate car SO BADLY but decided it was not a good plan to truck it back to the east coast only to immediately take it partially apart for a color change -- I couldn't get past the color. So I just stared at the photos. In the end I think it was the right decision.

Yep. The '85 Guards Red Carrera I just got rid of that had peeling clear coat in a number of places was pink anywhere the clearcoat was missing...

1970 porsche
I looked at this car a month or two ago l'm not sure where the market is going but I wouldn't pay 8K for it. The guy has owned the car for a long time, I used to see it parked in his driveway when I lived in the area 5-6 years ago. He says he has another 911 with a V8 in it, a true aficionado!
Good luck |
