As far as purists usually go a color change is the kiss of death for resale. Also you didn't mention that I saw if you have all the documentation to verify the mileage? Stranger things have happened but what would be the reason to change that color????

Today I had another visit with the owner to take more photos of the car and discuss the purchase. He is an older man very set in his ways and doesn't care if he sells it or not. We went out to his barn, moved the tractor out of the way and uncovered the car. It was quite dusty and battery was drained so no starting the car to listen to it, although I did hear it running in the spring-time when I was at his home. I confirmed the re-spray was done to a very high standard, I could not find evidence of the original color, except a very slight exposure near the VIN stamp in the luggage compartment... hardly noticable. The discouraging thing is he is not very co-operative in agreeing to have my/our (we use the same) factory trained Porsche technician look the car over for me? I indicated that having his assurance (the tech) will confirm the current state of the car. Afterall we are talking about a car that has been sitting for quite some time. I don't understand his reluctance, is it that he simply doesn't care, suggesting that I just pay him and take the car away or is there an underlying motive. I don't want to sound paranoid but it wouldn't take more than a few hungry mice chewing on the wrong wires to add $5k or more to the cost of the car, plus new oil, plugs, brake flush, maybe a siezed caliper and on and on. Oh yes, I also asked him about service history and the original owners manual to which he replied..."I don't know where that stuff is, it may be in a box somewhere in the house I really don't know..." again he is older maybe doesn't understand the importance of this documentation to a prospective buyer? So I may have to pass for now and re-visit this in the spring when he indicated he wants to downsize and sell his property? Thanks again, Mike Last edited by brock911; 11-03-2012 at 02:46 PM.. |
