value of a 964 turbo

Hi guys,
I have been looking for a 964 turbo for the last 5 months or so.

The problem I am running into is private sellers who see the dealer price and think their drivers are worth $43k just like the dealer asking. Out of the 10 or so $43-$49k cars I looked at, only 2 have sold in the last 5 months, and then at significant discount to asking.

The abreu '91 has been on the market for quite a while for $39k. Neither that one or their '92 got any real bids on e-bay. This makes me think a driver should be priced at $35k-$38k retail.

Am I close or way off base?

To clarify, this is my thinking on a 964t driver today:
$30k-$35k broker, dealer wholsale
$35k-$40K private retail (this is where a seller gets more $$ than selling to a dealer)
$40k-$45k dealer retail
blackbook is a tad higher I know
thanks, Com

Your numbers look a little low--particularly if the car is original.

Have you looked at this car?

I have not seen any decent original turbos with less than 65k miles sell for less than $45k. Anything under $40k will most likely need a lot of work. Low mile perfect condition turbos are now selling in the $60k+ range.

The car at Mohr was for sale on Craigslist Portland off and on for over a year at $50k... I think that speaks more to that specific car.

The OP's #'s are low. Excellent 965's start in the high $40's, below that is junk or the occasional out of touch seller we all hope to find.

There was a '91 Polar silver/Black with 22K miles 5 speed with Bilsteins/Speedlines advertised for $61,000. I could have bought it for $58,000 but didn't want a polar silver.

The car sold in 4 days...

I currently have a '91 with 42,000 miles that I have owned it for almost 10 years. I am in the process of sending the car to Don Jacobs in CT for a complete check up. If I was to sell the car I will not consider anything less than mid 50's myself either.

Nice well maintained 964 Turbo's are very hard to come by now-a-days

One of these cars fits the OP's price points; the other does not.

Abreu Motors LLC | 1991 Porsche 911 Turbo

This car's condition is suspect: consider the distortion in the area between the right front fender and right portion of the front bumper cover; the mismatched front and rear tires; the fact that the car is still subject to an open recall (Service Action 291, which deals with the car's turbo control unit); and the questionable service history.

This car has appears to have received the attention necessary to make it worth serious consideration for someone who wants to invest in a 964 Turbo.

I wouldn't argue that quality 964 Turbos start just below $50K. However, given the increasing interest in the 964 series cars, excellent, original examples of the 964 are earning more aggressive pricing. The price of the Mohr car is representative of that type of retail valuation. And those 964 Turbos which have been subjected to corrective maintenance but which are otherwise original can be priced surprisingly high:

Curious thoughts on the value of my car?

I posted an ad for it several months back, but did not have a single person come out to look at it. Similar miles to Moacur's - which looks to be in nicer condition, although I doubt $5k nicer.

I think most people are looking for cars that are stock, or "unmolested".

Your car looks very nice, and the dyno numbers are impressive.

Good luck with the sale.
