I worked as a Chief Engineer in Western Alaska for nine years and I don't want to go there. ND is where Native Alaskans threaten to send their kids if they misbehave.

Ah, the old powerbook prank. One of my favorites. However, I don't think the scammee turned scammer was ever heard from again.

Some peeps are naive, that's why it's good to get the opinion of the community. Some deals do exist. For instance, I recently purchased an absolutely perfect brass flywheel and shroud version of an early Easy Washing Machine Engine. This is one of the rarest types of washing machine engines (built by the Syracuse Engine Co.) and it is perfect/runs great.

I paid $100 for it from an elderly gentleman/collector that advertised it on an engine web site. The old guy collected them and probably didn't know what it was worth. I had already passed up two different, later die-cast flywheel, versions that had been bid up on eBay for almost $1K.

People do continue to locate "barn finds" of great value (although less and less often).

This is one reason I appreciate the Pelican community. A quick post and the first response had the link to the thread with the real scoop.
Who knew the market for rare washing machine engines was that hot.

When was the last time you saw one for sale? I looked for six years before stumbling on this one. Briggs PBs typically run upwards of $1K as well.

At auction that is.

Incidentally, I emailed the "seller" of the 911 SC and offered to split the difference on the shipping by driving out and picking it up. Here is his response:

I'm not around right now to get this thing done in person, I am actually out of the country for a bit. That's the main reason for using Amazon, plus it will be easier on both of us to get this deal done.
I wonder if he is a Nigerian Prince out of the country for the holidays?

his email ip should tell you where he's located...at the moment at least.

if he fails to suck someone in or worse has to disburse monies like in the PB prank, he might get roughed up. In Nigeria the organized gang members are really cruel to the guys that do their dirty work. I saw a documentary about scammers in Lagos
