Thanks guys for your input. The seller had to replace the fuel pump so had to pull the listing. I've pretty much moved on and looking at others out there. Maybe it's a sign

Be patient. Don't get sucked in. Have the money ready for the right deal.

Sage advice...

I would have advised yes.

Never a good idea to obsess over unlikely problems as many on this forum do. The majority of MM engine rebuilds were fine. The red fan indicates nothing.

Best thing would be to ask for any receipts related to engine work. Second best thing would be to have a highly knowledgeable mechanic check out the engine.

EDIT: It was an option to order bright trim on SCs. A fair number of SCs have the bright trim you (and many others) prefer.

Sorry , you missed it.

The red fan equipped engine made some interesting trashing sounds at idle.

I bought an 86 Carrera with an in-house MM top/bottom end rebuild in 2011. Was actually rebuilt in 2003, had about 35 k miles on rebuild when I purchased it, from a guy in the SF bay area. I never heard about MM until joining this site, after buying the car. Compression was in the 150 range in all cylinders. I drove the car for 3 years and never had one problem. I sold it a few months back on Craigslist, ( knowing I would have a hard time selling here.) I'm certainly not defending MM because I know they were scandalous and I feel for everyone who has been taken advantage of. Tim
