Pricing for 911T
First I would like to thank and appreciate all the contributors and inspiration offered by so many people, as well as the hosts
Greeting, name is Jesse and have been lurking, reading and viewing this board for few months now. Have gotten a lot of information about early 911Ts, hope to purchase one day and will be my first p-car. I've been looking into 1973 911T and notice the value of these car have doubled over the past few years. My question is, value of early 911T will continue to go up or this market value is no way of knowing and unpredictable? Seen some of the 73 911T's with condition from good to excellent condition going for $35k-$50k. Would this be fair price to purchase or I'm in wrong time to be in market for 911T? |

Personally I would not pay much more than mid 20's for a T in very good condition.
Yes, you are a few years late looking for a longhood. Good luck with your search. Gino

Cody,
Indeed the longhood market has taken off in the last several years and will probably continue as demand increases and supplies dwindle. Way too many of the longhoods met the crusher too soon. Rust is the culprit and finding a rust free example is not easy unless you want to spend the time and money in panel replacment, fabrication and restoration, which can add up. I will tell you that I own a 1973.5T (the last of the longhoods) and I bought this southern car 15 years ago from an attorney who put $34,000 into its restoration (bare medal repaint to engine and trans rebuild, interior, etc, etc, etc). I paid $9,800.00 for the car, which at the time I thought might have been on the high side!! It was a smart investment. Since then I have only improved it and kept it original. It is not my daily driver. Everything I read about the longhoods indicates that these early cars will soon reach the 356 status regarding value. If you have an opportunity to buy a decent 911T and can afford to keep it up, then buy one. If I were to put my 1973.5T up on the market today, I would price it in the 30's. My mechanic has a 1973 T Targa and feels its value these days is north of 40K. Good luck Bob 73.5T |

Thanks guys.
Yes, I feel few years late to be in market for longhood. Most all longhood I've seen are in good condition and rust free but skeptical about value decrease after purchase in high value mark. Maybe I'll give seller my offer and if not then I'll just wait awhile and keep dreaming of owning one. |

These cars are not going to decrease in price anymore then the 356 have. The Europeans buyers are picking them up as those with plenty of pocket change here. The 1974 - 1977 market is still a great buy if your interested in a reasonalble 911, just make sure the engine work was done on the 2.7. I owned a 1974 911 and it was a blast to drive as too the SC models (I had a 1979 SC) which by the way are coming up in price. You can still find a great SC under 20K if you take time to search well.
If you want a Porsche 911 and cannot afford a lot of money, look at the post longhood models, particulary the 1974 - 1977 years. The reputation of these cars based on the notorious engine issues has created a "stigma" in the Porsche community as the least popular run of 911's. It was only the engine (2.7 ran hot due to added thermo reactors to meet the emission standards and the casing's separated from the heat). Today its not an expensive fix and most running 911's of that vintage were repaired and doing well. Do your homework, do not get discouraged and make your dream of ownership happen. Bob |
