Price Check, Isle 1980

Ok, I am reaching a point where I need to sell one of my Porsches. My 996 is setup for DE so I think that means my SC needs to go. I have been an air cooled guy since 1971 so it kills me to say that.

The car is a 1980 911SC, Grand Prix White on Navy blue vinyl sport seats. COA, numbers matching car. The interior is pretty good. Either aggressively shampoo the carpet or replace it. The seats show some wear but nothing serious. A good upholstery should be able to replace the cording on the driver’s seat back and the car would be more than acceptable, especially for a 33 year old car.

The original paint is weak. The car’s nickname is “Measles” because of the horrible method used by a previous owner to touch-up any and all rock chips. Candidly, unless you like the patina as I do, a re-paint is in order. ZERO rust.

The engine –split case- and transmission were rebuilt (10k miles ago) by a gentleman well known to the Early Car community. It was done as a favor to the then owner, so few receipts. The rebuilder will be glad to verify the rebuild via phone. SSI’s, 964 cams, Dansk Sport muffler, new Bilsteines, turbo tie rods in 2009. I spent a ton of $$$ on the brakes and sorting out various CIS and other miscellaneous issues. The car now runs absolutely great. Engine is backdated, A/C removed, but everything else in the car works. Even the driving lights.

Too many other things like 7” and 8” Fuch’s, new battery, H-4 headlights, etc to list.

I have not paid close attention to the market in a couple of years. What would be a legit price to ask for and receive for this car?

Thanks for thoughts and opinions.

As requested, mileage is less than 98,000 and below is a picture.

Thanks for the responses.

I'd say you should be able to net at least $20k given the upgrades, and minimal knowledge i have of your particular car. Market for SCs and 3.2s is red hot, and with under 100k miles, you should be able to command a decent dollar.

I think the ask could be in the $24k, and everybody is happy $21k out the door.

High teens....

Based on the "measles factor" and needing complete repaint. The rear decklid is mis-aligned or appears so in photo. Blue interior looks a little tired and not the best white exterior combo inmo. Not nit-picking just things a buyer is going to call you on if you are asking 24 or 20-25 as some have noted. GP white w/ polished Fuchs and your up-grades is a nice touch. Good luck with the sale !

Bad paint, tired vinyl (?!?) and no documentation of the stated rebuild...and back dated engine without AC

High teens is my guess

You may be on to something there.

Thanks for all the input guys. It is much appreciated. For a number of reasons I have decided not to sell right now. . . Time is just not right.
