Yellow 912E

What do you guys think that they sprayed the trunk with? Some is blackish gue but some original yellow remain. That goes for the underside as well! Looks strange to me.....

It's just aftermarket undercoating. My 912E has a similar coating of it as well.

Thanks - bought it.

It will be arriving in Copenhagen late next week. Needs some TLC but looks strong. Will maybe replace my MB as the daily driver!

Thanks guys,

In Denmark we have this crazy tax system. You have to pay 180% of the cars value. That is why my SC is still a pure garage queen. On that I have to pay 24000 USD to get it registered.

I only have to pay about 4000 USD to get the E on the road because it is more than 35 years of age.

Shoud be a coolndaily driver - love the talbot yellow. Will try to repair the original paint with touch up etc. NO REPAINTS. Rather have an original roughy....

Hope that I dont break the clearcoat when I remove that god damned list on the fender and door. Will heat it up and go slow. It is practical but breaks the lines of the car.

Break the coumunist system - buy a really old car

What color are your cars?

My old beater is just boring Grand Prix White. I'm very jealous of your original talbot yellow

Do you have to pass an emissions test or inspection of the original equipment over there?

Under the 912E help forum on the 912bbs you will find a "sticky" thread that has the factory service manual, wiring diagram and service info books in PDF form. It's pretty helpful stuff for our cars. I downloaded them incase they get taken down.

Good idea JR!

GPWhite is a Porsche Classic!

Yeah it will have to go through inspection.

Flip it! Flip it!

I've got a sunflower yellow Carrera. Talbot yellow is another great color. Nice find. I still miss my 912e on occasion. But hey, my '67 912 may get a 912e heart at some point.

The little yellow plastic plugs on the body indicate the original owner bought "Ziebart" rustproofing. Most Ziebart dealers had no idea how a Porsche was constructed, so drilled random holes and sprayed their rust-preventative goo into both closed and open areas of the car. This was a popular dealer upsell in the Rust Belt.

Good luck.

Yiekes, tech.......is that very bad? I am not a fan of aftermarket rudtproofing, but apart from that I like the car. Just have to keep sn extra eye on those holes.........

Was the "good luck" ironic?

By the way, your eye for detail is scary! Congrats

No, not ironic. I could see how you could read it that way.

I just tend to be wary of cars from that part of the country. Likely everywhere the rustproofing was sprayed, the car is fine. It's just that Ziebart didn't typically do a great job on Porsches, so there might be some areas they missed. The luck comes in where those areas are not corroded. And there's always luck involved buying a car you were unable to see in person.

I do like 912Es, and it's a good color.

And yes, having had my first Porsche purchase (in 1971) be a rusty wreck, my eyeballs are calibrated to find potential issues.
