Jacob,

Minerva blue is one of my top three Porsche colors. Your car looks fantastic. I would be interested in reading about what you've done to it if you have any other pelican threads about your car.

I also agree with you on your philosophy. I have a pristine 88 targa and as much as I love the car, at the same time I don't... If that makes sense? I really want one thats more of a driver and this car is too nice to start cutting up, given the values of straight unmolested cars these days.

Nice looking car!

Thank you.

Click on my username and you can find plenty of threads on my car, including the engine build. Just about everything I have done with it is documented and public record on these forums.

I also love the Minerva Blue color and think that its worth at least an extra hundred grand to the right buyer:D

Does the market care if you upgraded torsion bars to larger ones? No one can even see that. Coilovers - different story. Does the market care if you have SC Cams? You can't tell the difference from the outside and I don't believe anyone gives a crap. Have you seen the rusty heaps of 356s and longhood 911s that are brought back from the dead and sold for huge money? Everything can be put back to original if someone wants to.

Or I might add, care if those horrible ( or similar to ) parts the factory designed for the competition 934s & 935 are changed out. It may take a little time for many to understand that, like Enzo Ferrari, Porsche built production cars to finance their race ambitions. Surely the few 934/935 will always be most desirable, from the turbo project to have, but if unobtainable , a 930 modded to drive, with that in mind, can't be all that bad.

My car has a Ruf-5 speed installed in 86 with all the rest of the stuff, the numbers matching transmission is long gone. 356, 911 longhoods, numbers matching rule the day for price.
The guys on the early S board stress over date matched wheels! and hood latches, etc. What is correct? is a hot topic. The original cars are definitely the flavor of the month and command the highest prices. That might change but we are not there yet.
Original, low mile 930's are the winners on this very thread for high prices, easily beating the modded cars.
Yes the modded car will go up also, and yes you can do a lot to bring a car back to stock and yes if it looks original it is, in the minds of most people. But no two ways about it, if market watching is your thing and your car is looked at as a IRA and you want the most ROI, then stock is the way to go. Just review this threads sale prices and cars.
My 930 is for my driving entertainment, road trips primarily ( city driving is not real fun with it). If it goes up in value it is a bonus for me as it is leverage with my wife for keeping it and dumping so more money in it.

I think you're being a bit conservative with the $100k premium !!!

Agreed!

Jacob lives not too far from me. I gotta meet up with him this spring to see his car in person. Just stunning.

I own a LHD 73 S targa that came out of England - LHD Porsche's in England are more common than you might think.

shlobeck 03-24-2015 08:23 PM

The paint code for minerva is 304.

Nice car, however not a fan of this style of photography
- Low light, with extra long opening times + photoshopping.
- Had a banger 944 turbo years ago, a friend took professional pics like this, and in pics rough 944t looked flawless, pristine. Nice pics, but not for describing the car.

Mines a '79 Minerva Blue also, no sunroof. It looks like your car is also no sunroof? They are rare.

boosted79 03-25-2015 02:48 AM

A question on "stock brings the best price". Does that pertain to the exhaust/emission system also? I've still got the reactors, air pump, air injection manifold, etc. that came on the car originally but are now sitting in a box. So is one of these cars worth more to a collector with all that garbage on even if it is detrimental to the engine's life? I'm guessing yes esp. if the car is going to sit in someone's collection and seldom see a road. But I'd like to hear the opinions from the professional collectors, traders.

The short answer is yes, closer to stock the better, even if it means the crappy factory exhaust. Hang on to that stuff for when you sell.

Is it possible to find the thermal reactors of the early turbos anymore. I don't recall any of them lasting very long on these cars. Usually the first thing to be discarded.

The action shots below are an example of this philosophy. I was at Monticello Motor Club running my 911 race car, but I drove the 930 to/from the track. There was a young pro-racer there who was instructing that day. This kid was born after my car was built, but he recognized what it was and he came to me and asked if he could have a ride. I did him one better and let him drive it a few laps. He had no difficulty recognizing my car as a historical icon. Have a look Tony and tell me where this car is lacking in historic/iconic appeal? let me have it buddy...

I don't harbor delusions that my car will fetch RM Amelia money, but when low miler '79s have rushed into multiple 6 figure territory, a car like mine selling at or near 100k is fully 60% (or more) discounted below the high water marks. For the mathematically challenged, 60% of 250k is enough to buy yourself a nice late model 997 GT3 to go along with your bastardized frankenporsche 930.

Beautiful shots of your car Jake. It is really nice looking. Thanks for posting and good for you for actually exercising it on track. Too rare to see these out on a track where they rule.
