I am by no means an ebay pro, but it seems he bought his own car back through someone else and now he has it re-listed here for much more....

I thought it said 'sold' for the first auction.....
I imagine the lack of pics and the rust/smoke comment are keeping most away?

I went back and it was indeed "sold." Not "reserve not met."
Not sure if you're worth the cut-paste at this point. I think you're a dealer selling some of these cars.

Are prices dipping down as winter approaches?

Jesus wept.
$88,000 for a 1977 911S. In silver, no less. That would certainly appear to be "all the money." Dipping prices, indeed.

Well, the $88K includes the buyer premium... so there's that.

Watching Barrett-Jackson in the Scottsdale, Arizona auction this past weekend indicated that prices have come way back up since the 2008 - 2012 runs. Hardly anything was below 100K!!!!!!! These are for the domestic muscle and antique cars, but an indicator that with the economy improving. Buyers have the cash to throw down for a restored classic or antique offered at high $$$$. Crazy prices this year.
Conclusion. Looking for an early Porsche deal? The cost of admission seems to only increase, winter, summer fall or spring. Bob 1973.5T |

I think what we're seeing is the "wealth effect" from a stock market that has gone to the moon these last few years. That and the fact that the Euro exchange rate can make anything we're selling here look really cheap. So, to your point, the time of the year has absolutely nothing to do with prices on classics and collector cars. |

Thats right Greg, any season is a good season to buy an older Porsche if you have the bucks. As a longhood owner I have witnessed the accelerated prices over the years on these cars. Now, with prices through the roof I have to ask if its time to part with the old gal and put the money into a bigger sailboat! There was a slowdown, but no decreases in 2008 - 2012, but prices bounced back powered by a strong dash of insanity. If one wants to pay the price, more pwer to them.

Well, I guess the questions you have to ask yourself are these: Do you think the stock market will continue to climb? Do you think inflation will continue to be that thing that happened in the 80's but never happens now? Do you think money will remain cheap, especially HELOC money? If the answers to these are an unequivocal YES, then hold on to the P car and wait. Of course it's never this simple. The classic and collector market feels a lot like 1989-90 to me right now. Yes, it feels like a bubble. And if Ferrari and some P car prices are any indication, it's a BIG bubble. I don't know what to tell people when they ask this question. I don't have a crystal ball. But I do know this: The population is aging and many people are downsizing and divesting their assets, like collector cars. I think this will continue to be the case. The Euro is artificially bolstering this market in the US and that can't last.
The decision is a personal one, but nobody would fault you for taking some chips off the table. |

Don't know enough about the economics of buying these cars or what is driving the markets.I personally think the Pelican Forum Boards (and others)have greatly influenced it.I know they influenced me last year when I decided I wanted an air cooled 911.At almost any give time there are 400 people promoting and helping others on just the Porsche technical bds. That is really amazing to me!

Some really crazy prices lately, there's no doubt whatsoever that we're in some kind of price craze/bubble.
Just a couple of things I've seen in the past few days: A 73 or 74 914 2.0 just sold for $30K on eBay with lots of bidding. An '86 Ferrari 328 GTSi sold for over $130K at RM. IMO, the 78-89 911s are going up. Whether the prices will hold, I don't know, but IMO this bubble in the sports car market will continue for at least another 2 years, during which time top notch examples of the the 78-89 911s will get pulled up. |
