Presale?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/784580-1995-993-manual-coupe-black-black.html

This has become the hot new way to sell a house here in Plano, TX; I found it interesting to see here on Pelican.

Sellers "test the market" and hope to generate a sense of "you better hurry, it won't last".

My thought is, why not just put it up for sale with a complete ad instead? Does this type of selling really help?

In this case, the seller is asking for people to bid on a car with NO real information or pictures. If it is a "no excuses example", how about an ad with pics and a full description?

I agree. It's just some 993. It's some sort of shady tactic meant to drum up interest but I really don't get the point unless it was some barn find Speedster or RS or something that has been off the map for a long time. Why not just put up the photos and be done with it? Guy was (or is) some real estate agent gone to Porsche flipping...

I'm guilty of having done a 'pre-sale' a couple times. Basically, you pick up the people aggressively looking to buy a particular car and can send pics and correspond directly.

Putting an official ad up gets you lots of dreamers, looky-loos, time-wasters, etc.

Obviously if the pre-sale tactic doesn't work, then you gotta go through the pain.

Makes sense if it saves you time from dealing with all of the above. If it works, then it is a good idea I never thought of.

Selling tactic

Agree with TechW for all the same reasons ...well stated and unfortunately so true.
eBay is ultimate "window shopping" experience .....especially with a reserve car..
The trick is to Bid safely well below a reasonable price and you can delude yourself into believing you are a real buyer.

You can put up an ad without having done all of the write up and pic work. If you are lucky it will sell before you get that far. I suppose using the pre-sale title saves on getting beat up over your ad quality

Can't see any problem with it myself.

The most frustrating ads are the ones quoting "POA"
