Time to move on - Market feeler

After eight years of proud ownership, I am considering putting our 1982 911SC on the market due to changes in priorities and upcoming tuitions.

About the car-

Grand Prix White coupe with sunroof.
88,XXX original miles. No track time. No accidents.
One small scuff over rear right wheel well repaired by Ken's Auto Body Aurora CO.
Black leather interior with optional black headliner. Dash is smooth and has no cracks.
Seats are good, seat belts are warn, but still operable.
Alpine AM/FM in dash stereo w/ Alpine 6-disc changer and Kenwood 200 watt amplifier and four ADS stereo speakers.
Black sheepskin seat covers.
Tinted windows.
Two piece bra, mirror covers, and car cover.
R-134 AC conversion that blows cool, not cold.
911RS inspired red Fuchs and reverse P O R S C H E stripe along rocker panel.
Car originally purchased at Crown Porsche in Greensboro, NC.
Complete factory took kit and jack.
Factory air compressor.
Turbo tie-rods.
Factory tea tray tail and chin strap.
H-4 headlight upgrades. Original cans still available.
Carrera chain tensioner upgrade.
Pop off valve upgrade.
Lowered and corner balanced.
Owners Manuals, folder, valet keys, anti-theft wheel locks and key.
Maintenance records.
Wheels are true and clean.
New Michelin Pilot Exalto tires at 86,000 miles. 225/50R-16 and 205/55R-16
A 30,000 mile service was performed by Prestige Imports, Lakewood Colorado, at 80,903 miles.
Due to a broken head stud on cylinder #6 in June 2003, the head studs, timing chains, chain rails, and rod bearings were replaced at 81,669 miles by Eisenbuds in Denver CO.
New Alternator and 82 month battery - August 2006.

Cover – Porsche Marketing Letter. Volume 23, #7 – July 2004

If you are in the Denver area and attended the show scene, you are probably familiar with this car. It is one of the cleanest, well pampered 1982 SC’s around. There is one minor door ding (less than pea sized) in the rear right rear fender. There are very few stone chips in the paint. I am the fourth owner.

I know that the markets have been soft for the last few years but I am looking for an idea of what a realistic price may be for this car. I have an idea in my head but need some opinion. Perhaps there is a fellow Pelicanite out there that just may be interested.

Thanks in advance for your input

Impressive car in a very marketable color.

For a quicker sale, I would price it at $21.5K and expect to sell right around $20. It will take a buyer who is buying his second or third 911 to appreciate all you've done. If you have time to wait for that one special buyer, you could put it at $24K...

BTW, if it were mine to sell, I'd locate and prep a plain engine lid as an option.

Tech knows more about this stuff than I every will: I couldn't agree more with the plain engine lid...it is a style preference, not a judgment. Your car is beautiful, but I would want a PEL.

Good luck. Again, very nice.

That is a nice car. Personally, I think it'd be easier to sell with black Fuchs. I would put the value in the high teens.

Techweenie,

Thanks, for the reply. I do have a hood hanging on the wall of my office. but it is red hood off of a Carrera. I have always wanted to paint to match and put it on the car....... - you would not have a line on one would you, saving me the paint and prep time?

Seahawk, thanks for your reply, the PEL is looking more and more attractive.

schumicat, I understand about the black Fuchs - When I got the car, they were black but worn. The car looked like it was a black and white photograph

Thanks again for the input.

Ironically, I did have a Grand Prix White engine lid for sale -- a few months ago. But I sold it. :-/

Basically its been my observation that the majority of the population cannot visualize what a car would look like -- even with minor visual changes. You certainly might find someone who wants the car with the Turbo tail. The suggestion was more for helping you get an easier sale and get top dollar.

Just curious, what did the hood end up selling for and what condition was it is? With grill and 911SC badge? I need to get an idea of what this could run me.

Thanks.

I agree with Techweenie and think you should get at least $20K for your car (low end). It may take some time because it would take a special buyer to appreciate your car.

I sold my '82 Targa last year for $17.5K which was in similar condition but not as unique or a concours winner like yours. My car was Guards red, 60K miles, recent head studs and was cosmetically a really nice driver. Given yours is a coupe, white and a concours winner I would think you can get top dollar for it. Mine sold from the PCA website and took about 3-months to sell.

Just an update - I ain't selling and ditched the tail and fitted a base rear deck lid on the car!

The summer driving season is quickly approaching.

Thanks everyone.

This thread freaked me out!

I failed to look at the dates, and was amazed that techweenie came in with such a low value estimate! Given his knowledge about these cars, I was in shock.

I was thinking $30-35k

bet you are glad you didn't sell!

As someone who is currently shopping for an SC, my hopes were extremely high when I read your original post, then I saw the first reply of $21,500 and had to check the date. I knew I wasn't going to find this car in today's market at $21,500.

Good to see you're enjoying the car though. Looks great!

I almost bit on it, too.

LOL.

Yeah, I like a naked butt.

Oh, and I prefer these cars without tails.
