How many miles?

What did you pay for your red 1986 coupe?

Did you pay $45,000 like every here insists?
It’s funny how people who pay more like low 20’s keep it quiet, in fear of getting attacked.
Only people who pay top dollar post what they paid.
This is why this forum has such a distorted view on market prices.

If they keep it quiet, how do you know that's what they're paying and how do you know they're afraid?

Congratulations Bash. The car looks sharp!

I picked up a clean, all original '86 a few months back. The only modification performed over the years was the addition of a modern radio. The car had just under 100K miles when purchased and is now moving past that magic mark under my ownership.

I hope that you enjoy your car!

Anyone who thinks that the market is "low 20's" is a dumbass. As someone who actively hunted and purchased recently, I will tell you that I chased more than a few cars. Anything solid that listed in the low to mid 20s was gone the first day. (Those listings were mistakes on the sellers' part. They could have gotten more.) Anything listed around $30k would go within a week, and the deal would be sane. (I pursued a few cars at $30k, and passed on several cars that I felt were overpriced at $35k.) Ultimately, I purchased at $35k for a very stock 88k mile GR coupe with a RUF 3.4 upgrade. I felt this was a fair deal, but the extra displacement was worth something to me.

Reddy,
Do you think geography plays a part in pricing/taking? CA seems to be higher than NY for example, and certainly Coupes are trading at a premium over Targas. A $35K Coupe might trade as a $28K Targa in similar condition, no?

I'm not sure I could say with any certainty. What I will say is that I was willing to pursue cars a long way away from me. I used Autotrader and Autotempest.com to search for cars in my window all across the country. I checked Samba, PCA, and other sites daily. I didn't see a significant difference, personally. There was a beautiful SC in Minneapolis that was snapped up very quickly, for example. And I was looking for a coupe, and observed that their prices were higher than Targas. Occasionally I would see Targas priced at coupe prices. And I'd keep seeing them.

Bash, the Region's PCA Club Race / DE is September 5, 6, and 7 at Carolina Motorsports Park, Kershaw, SC. Drive up on Saturday or Sunday watch the Race and DE we will have working. Great way to see what a lot of guys consider "fun".
