One owner w/ 28 K miles...usually those are worth a few extra bucks. Is the car in good shape?

Car is nice- just needs a clean up- he spends 6 months in Atlanta & 6 in Colorado so I would like to see it detailed. All original- no mods- no paintwork- it's a time capsule back to the excess of the 80's

I have not shopped for low-mileage 3.2 Carreras anytime recently but they were sold in high numbers, they are not terribly old and $50k should buy one with 28k miles all day long.
Before the most recent run-up in prices, $30k would have bought the same. Many of these cars are/were garage queens with fanatical owners. What I did not get from his post is whether his co-worker's car is a M491 car, he just said, "1985 Carrera". Obviously, that would add value and increase price. I'm not going to shop for you but try Hemmings, Panorama and eBay for low-mileage Carreras.

I was speaking about M491's as the very low mile ones seem to be in the 60's now at least. Basically very close to Turbos. I have a couple of 3.2's already and would like a low mile M491 but its not worth a 25k premium to me on a basic 3.2. More like 10k I think. From what I have read there are not many M491's out there. Maybe 1000 or so left worldwide. I am sure someone knows the numbers. |

THe closest thing to a definitive source for all M491 3.2 Carrera production numbers found here.
Turbolook-Register - Facts - Carrera 3,2 Interesting that the Targa is by far the rarest of the three body styles. Works for me though!

It's sounding more and more like that would be a smart buy on your part. Another thing to consider is that if you are buying a mint example of a special car to keep, (as opposed to flip), paying a couple bucks extra means nothing.

Funny....looked at the picture and thought, that is the way Philip Haupt used to take photos of "his" cars.
And cha ching........Fort Myers, Florida! Apart from being a very weird guy the Carrera I bought from him was excellent. Never should have sold it. |

I totally agree with you on this. I am so glad I spent what was "over" market to some on my last 3.2 as I don't ever intend to sell.

I don't think I'll get the answers I want as to real-world TL selling prices.
The representative sample seems too small to establish any kind of reliable base line. Hagerty says to add 10 % to regular Carrera values...guess that's as good as anything.
