M491 Confirmed Sales Prices?

Curiosity spurs me to ask how these cars are really performing in the present market.

I've seen what seems like highly inflated asking prices for Turbo Look cars, and I just wonder what they're really selling for.

I'm not planning to sell, just curious...TIA for any real-world sales reports.

They seem to be bringing turbo-look pricing as well.

I paid 25 K for mine back in 2009 which seemed like the upper end of the market at that time. Now I see asking prices of over twice that much for even higher milage examples...just seems hard to believe they're actually fetching those prices.

Prices in many segments are stupid silly right now. It's out of control. But I do believe people are getting mid to high $40's and sometimes higher for m491 cars.

Which means that in some cases, the M491 cars are actually higher in price than their turbo brethren.

Not sure if this is the place for this but yesterday I ran into an old Delta pilot that used to fly with one of my old customers in his Red / Black 1985 coupe with 28,000 miles - original owner-asked if he would sell it for $50K & he didn't seem interested.

"Boggles" is putting it mildly! How anyone would be willing to pay a higher, or equal price for the poser is really a head scratcher. I suppose some will chime in and say, "but, but ,but, the turbo is such a maintenance headache and it gets terrible gas mileage" . . .

Snap-oversteer will kill you, Ronnie. KILL YOU. Sell your car now, for a non-turbo car, with much better driving manners.

Hey, I might be in the market for a 930. Since yours is so DANGEROUS and might KILL YOU, I would be doing you a favor to take it off your hands. Think of the children.

Are you sure that you're "man enough" to handle this car?!

Do you think that PML (aka: PreMenstrualLobotomy) is "man enough" to handle this car?!

And thankfully, I do NOT have any ankle-biters to "think of"!

Ronnie, I am MORE than man enough. I'll lift in the middle of a high-speed corner ON PURPOSE. Because of my manliness.

Oh, and Eric, all joking aside, you are right about "it can kill you". I've had a couple of "scares", usually to the non-amusement of passengers! I punched it with my 70 years old Dad in the car - in 1st gear after just making a turn at a stop light, and almost lost control, and recently had a friend along when I decided to floor it, in 2nd gear, on a highway on-ramp that was too sandy for such shenanigans! You definitely have to keep a smart head at all times in one of these things! Tread jack complete!

Damn you. LOL.

M491 pricing has been jaw-dropping. It might be because there were fewer of them made, or because they had all the nice turbo bits without the actual turbo, so folks didn't crash them, nor race them, so they are in nice condition?

I am totally guessing about the "why", but the fact is that for ones in really good shape, they are equaling the prices of the real turbo cars.

Ha! Not so boring once you've added about 100hp! And hell to the NO!

I'll do better than that, I'll stop by your house once winter decides to leave!

We're only about a mile away from each other.

As these cars get older I think the performance is less important. In the case of cabs is the turbo performance really worth a large premium over the M491? I would think buyers for either are about the looks these days.

That's an interesting point, and I suppose it depends on one's motivations and preferences. For me, brute power is of primary importance, but I also think the 911 Turbo is one of the best looking cars ever created. I don't like cabs of any kind, so that would not even enter into the equation for me, but if it did, I would take the power, and gladly pay a premium for it, without question. This is probably due to the fact that I have been a mechanic for over 30 years (most of it non-professionally) and amature roadraced motorcycles (mostly Ducatis) for ten years, so power/speed is ingrained in me and I want it even if it rarely gets used (in other words, I don't drive like a fool on the street). So for me, I would not want a 911 that looks fast when it is not.
