Thinking of selling my 73.5 911T Targa
Hi all,
I have a 73.5 Targa 911T and through a variety of life changes may be considering selling it. Problem is I have no idea what it's worth on the open market. It's great running and driving, but has some body rust that would need to be addressed, though it's a great 20 footer or so. Interior would need to be retrimmed. Engine was rebuilt at some point before I bought it, but I had it into RennGruppe before they closed down and was told it has the carrera cam chain tensioner, and the leakdown test was consistent with a freshly rebuilt engine. Also has turbo valve covers now. My dad has been itching to hand down the 1955 Jaguar XK-140 that he and I rebuilt when I was in high school and we just had our first child, so having 2 classic sports cars (plus I have an SCCA race car) is going to be a strain to maintain both financially and time wise. So where would I start on asking price if I did decide to sell?? Any help is appreciated. ![]() |

Nice looking car. For an idea of valuations, check the Haggerty web site. They have a valuation tool that will give you some ideas.
You cam also look at the Early 911S Registry BBS for some ideas on valuation. http://www.early911sregistry.org/forums/forum.php

Be aware the ESR has had quite a few posts by people lately that came across as veiled attempts to open a bidding war. Your car is extremely desirable right now. A Google search may lead you to current selling prices for similar cars.

$5,000.
I'll save you the trouble of listing it and pay with cash right now. |

If you're gonna sell it, you may want to consider renaming it. Just sayin'...

If it needs rust repair, paint and an interior, it's closer to $30k than $70K.

Mack - I have a 73.5 just like yours. Same color. If you can get the Fuchs wheels back on it, it will be worth more.
I'm no expert on pricing, but it's truly worth your time to get it professionally appraised or sell at an auction..... Mine now has a high compression 3.2, but I kept the 2.4 that came in it......If you have the Sport seats, add $5K to the price......Good luck..

70K for a Targa that needs paint work ("20 footer"), rust repair, new wheels ? I know the prices are going nuts but I think that's unrealistic... I can see a SWB getting that. Not a 73.5 with those needs and bumperettes (although I had one too and loved the CIS). Somewhere between 30 and 50 depending on rust repair. If you want an accurate idea, you'll need to disclose more info and pictures, or just Ebay it and see. A friend of mine just sold a 68L coupe about 2 weeks ago with 20 footer paint and the wrong wheels (pretty than these though, sorry) for low 50s. IMO a SWB car is more desirable... I think 70 is "out there"... Just an opinion...

I have a tentative agreement to sell at $23.5k to someone from early 911 S registry, but no $ or paperwork has changed hands. If that falls through I have a local consigner that is wanting to take it.
I have been watching this auction with interest |

I asked this question 5 years ago, was told not to, still have car, thank god. There is something about driving an old Porsche, can't believe it's 42 years old now. I figure at this rate that by the time my son is ready to go to college that I could sell it then and pay for half his tuition. Granted, he's is not going to harvard.

It ain't MFI
The CIS 73.5 does not sell high like the early 73 back MFI cars. The 55 Jag sounds really cool. About $20K-$30K for the 73.5 with rust work & interior. What about putting it in storage with rodent control to preserve the wiring? It could be a cool project car for your child one day or college $$$ after the value increases over time. Just asking.
