PushingMyLuck, I found your car

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/806565-87-black-black-911-g50-carrera-coupe-northern-nj-under-110-000-miles.html

Priced appropriately, no accident history, available locally, and any issues can be fixed for well under your budget including purchase price.

Jump on it, buddy.

He'd still be well under his $35,000 budget on a moderate mileage G50 Coupe, all with the assurance that one of his high dollar contingency repairs is already done.

Bonus, thanks for the head's up.

Something tells he I'm better off waiting for a better car.

I'll try to do COLB justice:

1) Guy buys 911 and sells it only 3 months later? What's wrong with the car? Something doesn't add up.
2) Bad repaint.
3) No service history
4) A/C dismantled ?
5) Needs clutch (yet PO did clutch?)
6) Fake fuchs
7) Leaks oil
8) Smokes
9) Has tail. I personally refuse to drive tail car. Too old for pimped out racer boy vibe.
Almost as bad as a red car for a middle aged guy. ($1000 to remove/replace lid)

I want to hear COLB's reaction to this car.

Sure, it's in driver condition but it's well enough under your budget that you would have a better car with $10,000 into it than you likely would with a $34,000 example.

I have ethical reservations about ever talking negatively about someone else's items for sale.
I am sure the car is good for someone, and is priced to sell, but I will describe why I feel this isn't the car for me.
I am doing that for Bonus, who was helpful enough to post the link for me. Thanks again!

I personally feel there is a red flag with the history of this car.
He just bought this winter from a neglectful owner (and seemingly a liar).
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/784699-87-g50-carrera-questions.html

Now, seller is already dumping it before Spring has even truly arrived.
Maybe he decided to sell it almost as soon as he bought it, and is wisely letting it become someone else's headache?
There's a reason a G50 coupe is priced at $24k, as many here would say, there is no such things as a "bargain" in this market.
As a first timer, I don't think this is the car for me...

While it was a sarcastic post, its also into the G50 5spds service window. Might go 5k miles before it needs service, might go another 25k.

I'm not risk averse, so the mileage on the car means nothing to me. But the mileage means I would have a gearbox rebuild included in my 3-5 year budget of ownership. And since it needs a clutch and its coming out for that anyway I would bundle the R&R labor and have the gearbox opened up now. Might get in and out for $2500 or less and add another 75k mi to the life of the gearbox.

Much better than driving it into the ground and needing the sort of remanufactured priced gearbox PML's buddy needed.

Preemptive service on Porsche gearboxes can save one thousands if dollars during the life of their ownership.

These are 25 year old cars at the newest. There will always be something that needs work.

It beggars belief that I'm getting sucked into your vortex of crass time wasting, but I know the owner of the Black 87 G50 coupe that's for sale, and frankly I would hate for your idiocy to be taken seriously by anyone who might be looking and come here choose to read some of your skeptical nonsense. I've seen the car both standing still and running at speed. The pics don't do it justice. I think the seller has been up front about the faults, and is very clear in his ad. He bought another car, a 964, so one has to go. I won't comment on price because you are never ever going to buy a Porsche 911, nor have you ever had any intention of buying a Porsche 911.

Six hundred plus posts ... think of all that wasted time you could have been doing something constructive instead of virtually arguing about something that in truth you don't care about. Its a sad waste of life ...

Ha, funny. About three years ago I found a very nice '87 Carrera coupe for sale at the local Honda dealer, they took it in on trade. It was Venetian Blue over tan and had a little bit of paint work on the left rear quarter but otherwise very nice, low miles and reasonably priced. I was very tempted.

The staff weren't sure how to look after it. I test drove it and showed them how to use the climate control and check the oil (which they had overfilled). They were surprised when hidden buttons opened the sunroof and worked mirrors.

PML,

I bought a 993 with a big fiberglass tail (which I did not like) and the wrong wheels. I soon removed it after purchase and reinstalled the stock deck lid and found a set of factory Cup wheels. You can't let stuff like that stop you or you'll talk yourself out of everything and eventually find nothing for sale (because someone else didn't let a tail stop them from buying a car). I would have a very hard time finding a similar car today.

Nonsense? Idiocy? Whoa, perhaps you can point out exactly what is so idiotic instead of just attacking me with personal insults? I am quoting the original ad. I am stating what the owner himself has said. Are you biased because you're personal friends with the seller. At least you disclosed that. But, if you want to call my reaction to the ad "nonsense" why don't you point out what exactly is so incorrect? The only subjective item in the list was my preference of no tail, and any one else reading my summary would not be swayed one way or another by my taste. So, if anything, your unwarranted response is complete nonsense, not mine. My reaction to the car stands as is, and you free to point out any facts that render my list incorrect. Otherwise, have a nice day.

I agree. If the car had everything "AOK", then I'd agree and earmark $1000 to deal with the tail removal. Or spending $1000 on Fuchs. That is why I qualified #9, and pit it last in the list. In this particular case, I was just listing all things that made the car not something I'd pursue, including the relatively minor tail issue. Even if this car had no tail, the other 8 items in the list would have me pass on this car, either way.

People argue with my postings b/c they seem to enjoy themselves. I don't waste time on that.
I am here discussing the 911 marketplace. I have learned a lot, and don't consider it time wasted at all.
My quick analysis of the car in this very thread speaks directly to that, in fact.
If you feel my posts are a waste of time, you are free to not respond. Have a nice day, sir.
