Happy to provide the follow-up commentary. I would have done so earlier... only saw this thread yesterday!

And yes, I do now have some decent money in the kitty for something new. Although some of that already went towards an E46 M3. The M3 replaced the SC -- needed something as a more "reliable" extra car that my wife can drive when our nanny has her minivan.

Still have money for another 911, though. If anyone comes across a nice 3.2L Carrera, please let me know!

Another 'Thank you' for the follow up. I hope you will be able to keep your M3 longer than I kept mine. My wife got sick the first time she rode in the car, and her mind made her sick every time after that. It took me a year to realize that she was right and sell the car. The ride was just too damned harsh to be a daily driver, but it wasn't a 'great' track car either.

Pinball81, why did you sell your SC in the first place?

I actually thought the M3 was a great daily driver. Harsher ride, true. But not bad, even on our pothole-ridden roads in the midwest! I drove an E46 M3 for 5 years and an E90 for 2 years. Outgrew both as the family grew, and I now drive an X5. My wife liked the M3s -- except when she was pregnant... then she complained non-stop!

Long story. But the short version is that my wife (unexpectedly) became pregnant with twins, and we already had a 4 and 2 year old. We now have a full time nanny, and she drives my wife's minivan quite often. So we needed another "drivable" car that my wife or I could use (if nanny has the minivan, etc). So, I bought an E46 M3 as an "extra" car.

I decided to sell the SC and keep my '67 912, as I had more of an attachment to the 912 and it is obviously a rarer car. So the SC went up for sale.

Then, as I said, I got an offer that I couldn't turn down on the 912. So now they are both gone and I am Porscheless for the first time in a long time. That was not the plan

So I'm now looking for a Carrera... something a little safer than the 912 if I want to take a kid (or two) out with me on the weekend (since I am not allowed to leave the house without at least one kid on the weekend now!).

So... that is why I sold the SC in the first place.

Yep, I'll be there. I'll be prepared with a few slips of paper to leave on the windshields of cars I like. I have no shame.

You be there?

No shame in that. I'll be there with the blue '74 Targa.
You may not remember but I bought a set of BMW wheels from you some years ago at your previous house in MK.SmileWavy

Smart move on two fronts. First, selling the 912 for the strong offer. And two, buying the M3.

When you let things go like this, they have a way of always returning. I am sure you'll get the Carrera of your dreams. The Carrera is also a smart move with kids - a car you can take anywhere.

For anyone interested... my old SC now listed on Ebay. Porsche 911 SC | eBay.

I'll be interested to see how the auction goes.

So is the recent 5 hour road trip how long it took to drive from Indiana to Alabama?

blau911 07-14-2014 10:00 AM

Madonne these ****ing flippers. Love the free market but my mind will never adapt to this kind of vulture behaviour.

What Carrera are you talking about? A 3.2? How is that better to "take anywhere" than a SC?

Ha! Yes, perhaps... I bet it was a great trip in that trailer that picked it up!
