I'm seeing 1978-1989 911s sell on eBay for sub-$20,000 that are supposedly drivable, but rollers with no usable interior in the same year range are clearing $10,000. How can this be? I would expect a fully stripped roller to be worth no more than 1/4 what a functioning car would be.
What am I missing?

I was thinking that the rollers I was finding might be dismantlers adding a vig or something. When I talk to those guys they tend to be pretty cavalier about prices, like they have lines of people waiting to buy the cars, even though they've had them for months.

I can't find one someone will sell for less. I know of a 78 for 10k with no engine and full of trashed interior, a 74 that is stripped and needs work (presumably rust repair), and a totally stripped but repainted 87 for 15k. What I've actually seen sell is closer to 8k, but that's still crazy. Last edited by Etham; 05-17-2014 at 02:28 AM.. |

I've got a 1982SC Targa that is a "complete" Project and I would make a sweet deal on.. Engine is out, but that's for refreshing of certain CIS parts and other... Engine is 78 930/04 with bigger values and all the electronic crap gone.. All the upgrades, many new parts through out the car... Interior mostly there, but you need to finish to your liking.. Lots of pictures of every part of the car and parts..
PM or have others if some would like a good deal OR has a ready to race 944Spec that they want to trade !

Thanks, but the point of it for me is to do all that work myself. I might end up with exactly what you've described, but I want the car to build, not already built. I will probably be reaching out for pointers once I get going, though.

If you are after a project I have access to a 73E targa matching numbers. Was driving until current owner took it off road for resto. He's now selling it to make way for a 912 racer. Another one exactly the same (superbly restored) sold for 140k recently. Asking 30k ish. I believe.
