What price for a 3.2 engine and G50 box?
Always in the back of my mind is the possibility of blowing the engine or box in the 1988 Carrera, and what to do if that happens
Looking on ebay is useful, but its hard to see whether they sell or not. Basically looking at a 3.2 with 80-100+ miles out of a crashed or rusted out wagon and a G50 box, probably not togeather as a set, or are they often sold that way? What approx prices are they changing hands at these days? hopefully I'll never need one, but it all helps with planning the options. Thanks |

What kind of catastrophe are you thinking about? blowing it....what does that mean?
I cant find of much that would keep me from repairing the ones born with the car. |

Lots of variables.
But I expect $7500-10k is a rough estimate to pick up a running 3.2 ($5-6k) and working G50 ($2500-3500). Maybe less if you are buying "cores" with no guarantee they will run or work. There are not a lot of 87-89 G50s for sale -- maybe more if you are in California. If the transmission has a LSD and has been rebuilt, expect to pay a lot more. Also consider that a pre-87 3.2 will require some modification to work with the hydraulic clutch on a G50, so if the engine core and G50 are not off the same car/series, there will be some additional costs.

Thanks for the replies.
Considering doing a bit of track work and like to over-think the consequences, one of which is a loud bang followed by being overtaken by bits of the engine or box or both! That certainly gives me something to think about. Cheers for your help |
