Illinois Dealer Experience

Anyone know anything about this dealer: Welcome to A Kanerva Classics

Somewhat dubious with their pricing. Pay for the car up front and they will ship it to you for inspection. A 1956 Speedster for $40K??

They have had several Porsches including a 1977 Carrera 3.0 that is no longer on the website. Sold or just removed to look like it has been sold?

Is it a scam?

Well, work is blocking that site. Off to a bad start.

The pictures of their vehicles for sale are all clearly taken in different locations. That's a little suspect.
Then there's the no-showroom, view cars only by individual appointment or buy-online-sight-unseen business model. That doesn't really jive with a company selling Ferraris, Maseratis, and Porsches. Big red flag there.
Don't think I'd be forwarding my Visa number online. If you're truly interested in one of their vehicles, see what happens when you phone for an appointment.

A dealer who is $100k off on the value of a Speedster, (maybe more), in the buyer's favor? With armies of scouts scouring the internet for German buyers??

Fk me running...

Who sells a minty Ferrari 365GTC/4 for $49,000? Or a '65 911 "project" for $12,800???

Sounds fishy to say the least.

The two most common elements in the universe are hydrogen and stupidity. Greed is #3. Don't ever forget this.

It is a great cheat!!! A Kanerva Classics is a scam!!!

I have tried to buy 2 classic cars from this guy with shipment to Germany.
The guy (called Victor) asked me to send the money to the TSB Bank, Twickenham, in the UK.
I asked for payment via cashiers cheque when the car will be picked up by the shipper. Suddenly, both cars has been sold already!!!...and all the other classic cars in his inventory too!!!
Here is an email from this guy when I asked for payment via PayPal too:

"For some reasons PayPal blocked our account some time ago with a lot of money inside. We have received through PayPal large amounts of money from all over the world and as I said they just blocked our account and our lawyer still working on that. We are not the only company with the same problem regarding PayPal.

All the companies we know started to open bank accounts in UK. They offer to companies very nice financial/taxes system. I think Google has started the drill about the advantages of having bank accounts in UK. Google moved all their money and financial department in UK especially because of the difference of taxes comparing with US.

We sell a lot to European buyers and most of the European buyers prefers bank accounts in UK. It offers more confidence/protection and of course will speed up the transactions. We also have advantages (lower taxes and fastest transactions.)

You should feel more safe with a bank account in UK than in US due to the fact you are European. Also for both (you and us) the taxes will be very low comparing with the one in US. Due to the fact we are using bank accounts in UK we afford to negotiate more on the cars with the European buyers. Even part of the negotiation with you was based on the fact we are using a bank account in UK because basically we won't pay the sales taxes in US.

So, at the moment in order to move forward with the final prices and the offered discount over your payment invoices, we need to use the bank account in UK.

Looking forward for your reply with any question. Also please confirm that the bank transfer will be processed tomorrow.

Regards,
Victor
A Kanerva Classics"

Somebody in the US sould stop the activities of this guy called Victor! This guy should be send to jail!...

There are some scammers posting ads on Craigslist in various cities and when you contact them, the car is on consignment in a city that is far from the original CL posting. They are usually under priced and rare cars that would draw you in. I came a cross an ad in Indiana and I got this email from the seller.

Hello,
My name is Darlene Jones and I'm glad to see your interest in purchasing my car. Let me tell you that my 1966 Porsche 911 is still for sale. The asking price is $27,490.00. It has 41,500 miles and a clean title(no liens) in my name. It is in great condition, no dents or scratches. It was always garaged and the regular maintenance was done in time. It wasn't involved in any accident and has never suffered any kind of damage. Also this is a non-smoker car.

I have to sell it because my business in the real estate went to bankruptcy because of a bad investment and I am having a very difficult financial situation, this is also the main reason for the low price. I apologize for the confusion with the location but I just sold my house in Carmel , IN and moved to Chicago, IL.
Buying or selling on the Internet can be rather difficult this days that is why I have already handed over the vehicle into consignment sale to a local dealership here in Chicago where anyone can come and see the car or arrange shipping if necessary. Literally have power over matters in selling the car on my behalf and I retain the ownership until the transaction is complete. No sales tax/fees will be applied for this sale.
Please let me know if you are still interested and I will send you the dealer info...
Thank you.

I asked to come look at it and he replied.

You have the dealer info bellow,it is a small dealership in Chicago.I just left the car there 3 days ago,so I don't know if they have put it on there website yet...

Dealer: Gateway Imports
Sales: Adam Hillard
Address: 5389 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60630
Website: www.gateway-motors.com
Email: adam@gateway-motors.com
Email: adamhillard@outlook.com
Phone: (773) 672-8047

Went to the location and no dealer at that address. Luckily I was in town on business but I met another guy who drove 5 hours to look at a jaguar. Total scumbags running these scams.

Thanks to all that confirmed my suspicions. I had a few emails from Victor but never spoke with him. We may have taken him down.
