'83 SC Cab for $65k?

I traded messages with a guy who recently paid $65k for a mint, low mileage '83 SC cabriolet. Is that insane or is that the going rate? I have a nice SC cab but I thought if I could get half that I would be happy (not that I am selling). I may want to consider selling before the market pops?

That seems a little high. 55k is close to top of market. Must have been worth that to him though, so that's good.

Yeah, I'm "that guy". Car arrived yesterday and it's a mint time capsule with 17,200 orig miles. As you know it's the first year for the cab since '65 (but the '83 factory brochure I have says '64?), last year for the SC and being a late July '83 build has the upgraded Carrera case. Based on the above I think overall it's a solid investment. Don't plan on putting many miles and do plan on keeping. Time will tell if it works to my advantage, at least it's some nice garage candy to look at.

Just had the opportunity (time) to give it it's first bath since picking it up. Here's a few pics. Went out for a nice drive with my better half and it drives better than it looks!

Gorgeous! That is a time capsule. Wanted to share this with you. I have a couple items that, if you can get your hands on, will help support the value of your car. I have a copy of an original magazine advertisement that discussed the car (photo attached). It is pretty cool and gives some interesting info about the car. I also have the original Road and Track from February 1983 that reviews the 911 SC Cabriolet. Cool memorabilia.

Happy to create a color photocopy of the ad if interested. Let me know.

Beautiful car!!

To me the price is what you feel comfortable paying. That said at that amount it isn't the obvious paint and interior condition but the details that count. The car should be super detailed with all coatings top to bottom well preserved. Polished wheel houses, engine component plating, etc, etc.

Also proper care and storage will also be needed to keep the value up. That isn't a car wash and throw it in the garage car.

It certainly isn't undervalued IMO.

How would those, in any way, "support the value" of the OP's car? I mean, they're cool. Don't get me wrong. But they have zero chance of affecting or "supporting" any sales price.

To the OP. Nice car. Well bought. You may never see another.
