local Tractor auction find

Lucky day... I found a 1974 USA Carrera Targa at the local Tractor auction house.
got for a steal no one was there.
Red book tells only 246 ever on the the globe in 74 36K miles.
omg what is it worth ?

Shoot. I thought this was going to be a thread about a Junior. I really want a Porsche tractor for my farm.

Crazy isn't it?
Condition on your car is hard to assess, but $40-50k would be a wag. Missing the script (suggests a repaint which also suggests maybe an accident in its low mileage life). On my phone but mirror looks 964 and not original. How much more is molested? Is the ducktail original, for example?

Looks nice but lots of incorrect parts window trim, wheels, duck etc; I'll go $30-45

Nice buy.

Patrick I believe '74s got the ducks. I don't think they switch to the bigger tail until '75. I'd have to double check that though.

Dude, that thing looks SWEET with the ducktail. I tell you, Targas look good with ducks. That is one fantastic car. I am a huge fan of '74 and '75 Carreras - the dark horse of the Porsche world, the most misunderstood car. Values are going. If it's a '74 I would check the rear flares - if it's early it might have real RS flares on it. I read a thread on that here and it was a huge education for me.

yep on very early ones i've seen the RS flare, actually an awesome one I saw at the Ventura show some years ago IIRC a grand prix white also with orange script, a real show piece that didnt command the attention it deserved back then, they were so poo-poo'ed and now people fawn on them and sing the praise.
having bought #31 in GP white,a coupe with the blue script against popular trends in that epoch... I knew too well that with a total production of less than 1000 made (528 coupes and 346Targas) it did not matter what the peanut gallery was echoing, it was bound to catch up and be rediscovered for what a fine example they are.

Yea, you could tell it was white by the engine compartment. I would bring it back to white. These cars deserve all the attention they can get right now, and now is the time to give them some respect. The coupe in the above post is right on - it's amazing to my mind how clean an impact bumper car can look with a duck and script. It looks so right I almost prefer - dare I say it - to a real RS that looks a little dated to me.

You can also see it around the edge of the rubber in the door sill and up under the fender in the open door shot.

I would totally take this car back to white and put the script back on it. Part of why I like my '86 so much is that it is an old '74 color with the script. Just wish it had silver trim and early mirrors. Wouldn't complain about a duck either.

Just make sure you look at the fuel pump and make sure the feed line is OK - the one from the pump to the accumulator (I believe the '74 pump is mounted like the '75 at the front of the left rear wheel), and make sure the lines were replaced at the front of the tank. It baffles me people don't do these.

Put the graphics on and drive it like you stole it (because you did), but also make sure the tires aren't 10 years old either. Get new ones if suspect.

I would start dismantling and sanding it, get her down to the original white paint. And figure out why someone painted this car red.
You clearly don't lack cars to drive. If you find this car interesting start going back to where it started.

( Any suggestion has to where to source original ones would be great )

It does have early CIS I don't see a WUR on it and the Engine looks to be totally rebuilt with everything new including the fuel lines and even the fuel distributor rebuilt stickers and new nuts and crush washers everywhere.
looks matching from red book as well. I will order COA soon ..
167hp feels so leisurely and friendly for sure .compared to the other 911 i have beg you to kill yourself in

1st thing for me is to put the Carrera Graphics on the sides ..
and fix the all to typical no start once hot like every CIS 911 i have had??
but not bad over all for a no run auction car. Jezz,. only 246 on the plant and found 239
(should make t - shirts lol )
Probably the fuel accumulator.
