Rare colors above all

Porsche : 911 S in Porsche | eBay Motors

Aside from the fantastic color (and other obvious pluses period graphics, fabric seats, very original interior) its still a mid year which probably needs a re build, and I would estimate conservatively $10+k in rust repair. Plus once you repair the rockers, hood and fenders you loose the OG paint and fantastic patina,
Described by the seller as having 'surface rust' see attached pics price is already at more than $15k ... As evinced by the olive SC Targa its the 70's Porsche paint colors that command a real premium on the G series cars

That car is a horror show. The bidders at $15K will be very unhappy winners.

Rare colors are bringing stupid premiums right now. (Well, except for Magenta, Royal Purple and a few others).

EDIT: I see the reference to "very little surface rust" which is still in the listing. And could be somewhat true in a sense, since a lot of the rusted areas are completely missing any sort of surface.

That one left me scratching my head as well... The color and safety graphics are great but with "surface rust" like that I can only imagine what all the hidden bits look like.... Maybe I am dumb but I would have been hard pressed to see $5k

We're looking at $20k+ in body shop costs, I'm sure. $5K is an okay price for the car as parts.

Sad to see a car so neglected. Makes you wonder how many original mint examples in this year & color with decals even exist today (perhaps none)?

The 911 hood decals look good on bright colors - this one from Japan in 1975 alongside a 930.

Amazing

Clearly I didn't have enough to do this morning so I emailed the seller ... here is his reply ...

"Yes it is 99% surface rust. Only 2 small spots that I mentioned are below gas door and on the fender at the edge of front bumper Both spots are about the size of half dollar. All the rust repair is a easy repair!! All which could be fixed in a days time. The car does not have any mechanical history and I do have a Porsche manual log book (oil changes and such) that goes with the owners manual. My plan is to let the auction run of course but if we could agree on price before ending I would do so. Car is at 15,200.00 right now and I have a good idea what it is going to bring by end of action. Make me an offer"

Fixed in a days time !!! ... Now I need to go to the optician and get my eyes checked, then i need to work on my Math and figure out where I have gone wrong with my study of percentiles ...

What sort of stupid rare color premium do you think could be applied to my Minerva Blue 930?

My car or the one I posted in the link? I have the factory Fuchs for my car...factory valence was modified for front mounted oil cooler, but it shouldn't be difficult to source an original piece if I ever decided originality was more important than sensible oil temps. Engine is irreversibly modified though, so I gave up on keeping it stock. Rather drive it than "collect" it

Probably +15%. And IMO market value would be +20% if front valance and wheels were put back to stock.

So the green car went for 17 grand
The market is speaking : this rusty POS and Dgriz's beautiful Olive Targa, (now at the dealer for 35k) seems like the non metallic greens are really gathering momentum.

Yes, non metallic greens are strong. The Leaf Green '68 Softie that got bid to $130K last week in Burbank is a prime example.

Lots of 70s non-metallic colors you can't find any more -- "period colors" -- are strong. I even sense an increasing openness to Sepia.

Love your car!

Not sure of your mileage, but here is a presumably low mileage example the same year/color with sport seats for 48k by a dealer. It doesn't appear to have any irreversible mods, but does look like sort of a mutt as is.

The market cares. That's why you see a premium for different colors.

And I saw a brown over brown (I can't remember the exact colors - chocolate over mocha, IIRC) SC that looked VERY nice. I would have bought that car at their price in a second, if I hadn't already had a car.

This market (current buyers) seem to be willing to pay more for a color that's not red, black white or silver, all other things being equal (that's important). So the folks who care are the folks who are currently buying aircooled 911s.

Thanks! Chuckling about your use of the word "mutt" to describe the linked car. Here is the back of my car. A tribute to my favorite breed of dog, and a reference to fact that I have deviated from stock purity under the engine lid.

When I was shopping, I was open to anything but Guards Red or Black. No way I was buying either of those two colors, no matter how nice the car. GP white or silver was good in my book, especially with Can Can red or Lobster interior...awesome!

Re: brown...my most favorite 930 belongs to a Pelican named Miguel. '78 Cockney Brown, with brown sport seats (cloth inserts with black pinstripes). Coolest looking 930 I have ever laid eyes on. I don't have any really good pics of it unfortunately.

LOVE me some sepia. Tried to buy a Wyoming sepia 70T targa a while back with no luck. He was at 10k I was at 7500. Now hes at 20k-Ish. Should have manned up. Ended up with a bitter chocolate SC targa. Not too bad of a compromise.

Sepia is of limited appeal, but I don't know too many folks who don't love bitter chocolate or mocha.

The colors I don't understand are the light greens and golden greens and gray greens... but I suspect people who like those wouldn't understand the appeal Signal Yellow has for me.

It's colors you can't get now -- and haven't seen on cars for 30+ years that seem to be having a surge in interest. What's funny is that those are the colors that got painted over with black or red in the 80s.
