What is a fair value for a high miles 1987 G50
I need help on the value of a 1987 G50 Carrera with 193k miles, but with a full engine and tranny rebuild at 150K miles. The car was used by the owner for time trials for about 5 years, about 6 events per year but has not been tracked the last 4 years. It's all stock except for the dual exhaust, front oil cooler and cat bypass. Original paint, no accidents or rust. Does not smoke and leak oil. Car runs and pulls strong. The paint and interior are good but could use some TLC with a small crack on the dash.

I Hope it's worth a lot more than that. I have a 155,000 mile 87 coupe that I plan to sell soon. I was thinking it to be worth near 25k maybe more?

I recently sold my 89 Carrera for 39.5K. It was an exceptional car with 124K but a complete rebuild. It was an original car with paint and upholstery in outstanding condition. Lots of maintenance docs and had won a couple of recent shows.
Based on what you have written i think the group is probably correct at about 20-25K. That is unless there is more justification to increase the price. 87-89 Carreras (G50Trans) are hot right now and the prices are going up for a quality car. I hope this helps. RRC715 |

Beautiful car, and unfortunately what I would call a catch-22 car. I don't know the circumstances behind why you want to sell, but keep in mind you will never be able to replace it for under $30k.
High mileage g-50s with rebuilds vary rarely come up for sale (hell, g-50s alone are rarely trading), so if you ever decided you wanted back in you'd be screwed. I'll never considering selling mine for this reason. That said, all stock suspension that's been heavily tracked is going to ding you on value to any prospective buyer, but I wouldn't even start conversations with anybody under $27k. They just don't trade enough to fire sale it. |

If he tracked it for 5 years, and given the wheels and other mods, I seriously doubt it has a stock suspension.
If you go to sell it, it would be helpful to list specifically what was done with the suspension, and when. If you are unfamiliar, I'm sure a performance shop could check it out and tell you what you have under there. Was the rebuild straight stock? Just a top end or a full rebuild? Maybe Euro pistons? Again, if it was a serious track car, one would expect the previous owner might have gone for some mild performance mods. If it is a straight stock motor with a beat down original suspension, worn interior (maybe with track seats?), non-stock wheels, non-stock mirrors, maybe holes where the roll bar used to be, etc the bottom end may be more like $23500-25000. If it was rebuilt to a performance spec, with stock interior, and quality suspension components in good condition, maybe $27-29k. IMO, tweeners like this are the hardest to gauge. Who are you trying to sell it to? A guy who wants a street car, or a guy who wants a track car? It seems like guys looking for a combination street/track are getting rarer in the market. They are still there in decent numbers, but the market has grown up around them. And most of them want a deal because they are the guys who remember buying these cars for $12-15k just a few years ago.

Thanks for all the comments. I personally think that this is a $23k-$25k car as it sits now with all the nice mods but reversible mods. However, the mileage even with the rebuild and the track use somewhat diminishes the value, I think!!. Colb is right on about the selling part down the road.

If I understand your posts, this is a car you are considering buying, not one you own and are selling, is this correct?

Sitting awfully high for a track car.
I'd need to know a lot more before narrowing to a number, because it's somewhere between $20 and $25K, IMO. Less if the 'full rebuild' was done by Motormeister.
